Pleasantly surprised
Well I hesitated buying this due to some bad reviews but I'm really glad I went with it. It is actually very sturdy, locks automatically when the door shuts and instructions were easy to follow. I'm not really sure why other people had such issues with it. It's really solid now that it's all together. The stairs don't give, the door opens more than 6 inches (lol not sure why someone left a review saying theirs only opens 6"... operator error I guess) and it doesn't shift around in the pool. We dont currently have it weighted down either. I will say that I could not have put this together, physically. I mean I'm sure I would have figured out a way had I not had my husband but it would have been difficult. Some things did take a little bit of muscle. I have a 1 and 3 yr old. They are able to climb in and out perfectly, can't reach the lock and love they have a little place to "perch" when they want to sit and watch. Thank you Blue Wave for the added security.

pricy, initially disappointed, but used for many years.
My pool came with a deck mount ladder. We have not extended our deck toward the pool so needed an "A" frame ladder. Ideally stairs would be the best but trying to save a few dollars, and swimable area, I purchased this ladder. After much research, 2 seasons, I thought this ladder would offer great stability and security both for my little ones who constantly jump off the steps into the pool as well as for their large daddy. I especially liked the lockable door. Well I'm probably not going to even open the box and return it right away. My local pool store happened to have it on display today, albeit for over $500, and I was truly disappointed. The hand rails offer no security whatsoever. They are screwed onto the steps through three THIN and VERY BENDABLE pieces of plastic. The handrails on top of the ladder at the platform are very wobbly. Scary concept for active children leaning on or adults needing any support while turning on the platform. It was shockingly flimsy. The traction is just a few raised lines of resin on each step and platform. Also the width verses angle of stairs makes it feel like a steep climb. I agree with the reviewer who stated the door will close should there be a breeze. It is designed to self close. A great idea, but practical, NOT. The door doesn't open wide enough to allow full use of the stairs and its kind of in the way. I asked about where one would put rocks to weight the ladder, but the newer ones are water weighted as per the salesman. Overall, I would rate this 2 stars and that is just for the concept, not the craftmanship.Update: I kept it. Installed it yesterday. Its very stable in the pool but definitely add at least 50 pounds of rock. I used mini marble chips washed well. I also widened the pre drilled water holes slightly with drill bit. Adding rocks was the most time consuming of the assembly. Hint, I cut bottom of a milk container to make funnel. Then jiggled ladder to help them pour better. Worked perfectly. I haven't changed my mind about the upper handrails at the platform and the design of the gate, but the width was fine for my large husband to use. Upped raiting to 3 stars.Update.We ended up having this pool ladder for many years. We eventually moved, disassembled the pool and sold it, ladder included. It held up for many years, solid and still looked good. When i closed pool, i removed ladder and drained it, but was still stored outside. I did have to make sure screws were tight 1-2 times each summer. As for the safety door, I ended up rigging it at the hinges with HD tie wraps, instead of the manufacturer's hinges, so it would open fully. I just locked it with a chain and lock until I knew the kids wouldn't swim if unattended. It remained steep to climb out and a couple times we slipped down. Live and learn. The design allowed maximum use of swim area which was important to me. I power washed it every pool opening and It held up for many years.

Nice quality decent price
Despite other reviews I purchased this thinking of the steps are flimsy I’ll return. I found this to be very sturdy and well made. Both my son and husband are around well over 200 lbs and no issues with steps. Easy to assemble (for them I just watched). Helps dog get in and out herself easier and the gate keeps her out when we are done (because she is never done).

Missing directions and hardware
I really took a lot of time to get the right ladder for my above the ground pool. Yes, I have bought one and used it for two years. But I wanted one that had steps on both sides so, this one was going to be perfect and fit my needs. UNFORTUNATELY, it came without the directions and hardware. I managed to look on line and found the directions in a Pdf. Very complicated! Took an inventory of the parts. And began the assembly. Here's the problem... It took all the force I could muster to bend the stair treads. I was not going to let it get the best of me and I finished dry setting everything. Day 2, trip to Lowe's and buy $40 worth of stainless-steel hardware. Purchasing weight bags on Amazon, another $80. All in $901.00. This better be worth it!! So why didn't I wait for the hardware? Simply put we want to use the pool in two days' time. I also bought this product because it should be sturdy enough to support heavy guests. I'm still not a fan of the three tabs to hold the handrails. That needs a better design! I can't speak of the gate as I won't be using it. My yard is fenced in.

It gets you in and out of the pool is all I can say about it.
If you can by some mirical manage to assemble it. It gets you in and out much better the junk ladder's that typically come with above ground pools. The directions are diplorable. Very easy to mess up. The lock mechanism is a joke because the product is so flimsy. The gate is in the way when you enter and exit. I find a rubber bungee cord helps. Frankly; I hate it. It's a waste of money and from useing several similar products in the past, you will be lucky to get just a 2-4 years out of it. To bend the steps as direct takes super human strength. A gorilla would help. The railings are so poorly designed it's embarrassing. They are incredibly flimsy. There is nothing good I can say. I filled the in the water side steps as directed and they still float. Even when completely full. Making the steps even more unstable. It's expensive junk! However; if your very, very careful, you can somehow manage to get in and out of the pool without killing yourself. Only 2 other options, the actual plastic stairs but they doubled in price to over $1,200. Or build your own out of wood. Then price of wood these days, you can see why I bought this thing. If you buy it, good luck, you will need it. Bottom line for many people especially older folks it may be the only option if you want to enjoy your pool. I hate them but it does get me swimming if I don't wind up in the hospital.

Expensive but worth it
I like the fact its non slip stairs. I also like the fact the stairs do not hurt your feet like most Ladders. Very easy to install.
