Extech 42510 Mini Wide Range Infrared Thermometer

My original infrared thermometer was from the famous HAR*** FRe**** chinese-taiwan importer. It was a piece of junk. Out of the box the laser was pointing up and to the right by about 30 degrees. Finally, after about 4 months of use, it died. It was cheap and I got what I paid for, but I would expect anything to last more than four months.The Extech? Great unit. Laser is spot on. Temp was withing 1 degree of my Fluke 88V. I have several Extech products now and very happy with all of them. Some are a few years old now and still work great - I expect the same from this unit.

I find myself using this in many cases--to see how hot my skillet is before I start cooking pancakes, to see how low I can have my computer fans run without making the inside of the case too warm, and to look for areas where my wall was poorly insulated. Plus, it is just fun to play with. As far as I can tell it is very accurate as I tried testing it against what another thermometer was saying.

This is a quick easy way to monitor surface temperatures. This is a useful tool for the construction trades, and industrial / production applications.

ALOT OF USES AROUND THE HOUSE AND OUTSIDE. JUST POINTED IT TO MY BUDDYS FRONT BRAKES ROTORS AND FOUND THE 1 HANGING UP.

Reasonable thermometer, however, there is one major flaw that irritated me so much I returned the item. You cannot change the default temperature and you cannot enable the laser by default. So in order to take a measurement in Celsius, using the laser, I had to pull the trigger to turn on the device, press C for Celsius, press the button to enable the laser and pull the trigger again to take the measurement. Compared to the cheapo Chinese device that this one replaced, this is 3 more steps!I contacted the Extech support, but they told me there's nothing that can be done to change the default settings.
