At the front, a High resistance coating (H.R.C.) enhances anti-scratch ability and resists spray and water. The ND500 MC allows you to reduce shutter speeds from 1/500 sec to 1 sec, which is a real 9 stops reduction of light. It is rarely usable. You don't encounter the situation with that many stops to correct. Image quality wise, My Tiffen ND filter does better job.
