If you're considering buying new forks and reading a review I'll assume you're half handy, into mtb, and have a few tools. The only real difficulty was getting the bottom bearing race off the old steerer tube and seating it at the crown on the new forks. A few (gentle!) taps with a hammer and punch around the race pooped it off with no damage, but seating it on the new fork took some creativity. I stood up a 2x4 and placed the bottom of the crown straddling it, then slid the closed end of an 1 1/8" wrench down over the steerer tube and then a piece of abs pipe on top of that to hammer (just enough! No Hulk Smash!) it into place. Used an angle grinder to cut the steerer tube to proper length, but a regular hacksaw works just as well. Doesn't come with an insert for the stem cap so you will have to tap the old one out of your old steerer tube, or just buy a new one. There was some marring around the circumference where the bottom bearing sits, so I'm wondering if these were actually brand new or someone had them before.This fork is by far the best upgrade you can make to a crappy dept store bike or old spring fork. I bought a CCM full suspension fr Can Tire (peeled all the decals off) and this fork easily doubles the "rideability" over curbs, potholes, roots, kids toys, and whatever else us white middle-class yuppies call "mountain biking" around town, paths, trails, etc. I've also got a GT Avalanche (27.5) that I'll be putting this fork on. The return on investment with this fork is awesome.I realize I only gave four stars but if at the end of riding season they're still holding up I'll change it to 5. They showed up on time, and the seller even included a free little gift.
