Excellent Activity Tracker
It got me off my arse and has me walking and even riding my bike every day! I've lost 15lbs since I got it (about a month ago).At first the bluetooth would drop out occasionally (using Samsung Galaxy S5), and it could only be resolved by rebooting the phone, but I installed the latest firmware update after a day or two, and it has resolved the bluetooth issues. As I said, I've had it about a month and it's performed flawless (once I updated it).Despite there claims of being waterproof, I don't wear it in the shower. I'm not doing anything in there, nor am I in there long enough to justify keeping it on. It sits on the bathroom counter while I shower. At first I was a bit befuddled by the fact that it didn't register 'steps' when I was riding my bike (which I do frequently), but I found if I put it in the front pocket of my shorts, or tuck it inside the thigh band on my cycling shorts, it registers the activity just fine.I also especially like that when I track my walks, runs or bike rides in the "MapMyFitness" apps, that they are able to automatically synchronize and show up in my UP timeline. Some things I wish it did:Daily, Weekly, and Monthly step/activity goals! The fact that it has one daily step goal that carries over every day is a minor annoyance. How much I walk on a daily basis varies depending on many things, including weather, how busy I am at work, etc... If the weather is nice, and work isn't too busy, I might walk 10k steps over the course of the day, but other days, if it's cold or rainy, or work is too busy for long breaks, I might only do 3k or 4k. I usually know this is going to happen ahead of time. It would be nice if I could set a different goal for each day of the week, and keep them separate.I wish it had a weight tracking function, even if I had to input it manually like I do food and mood stuff (I imagine this will happen in a future version). It seems it would fit in nicely with all of the daily info panels they give you to encourage your sleep and activity levels.I wore this side-by-side with a Garmin Vivofit for about three weeks. I find the UP24 a much better overall motivator to get off my butt. I thought I would like the Vivofit with it's LCD display, as I could use it as a watch to show time of day, but the display on the vivofit isn't bright enough if you aren't in a well lit room. I find myself having to turn the lights back on in the bedroom to put it in sleep mode (I keep forgetting). Also, the UP software is much much much better than Garmin's equivalent.I wish the data I see on my phone was available in a web browser so I could view in on my computer screen.I really wanted to like the garmin alternative because I love their cycle computer (Edge 510), and I wanted to have all of my data in one place. Garmin's "Connect" is great for tracking fitness and sporting/athletic activiies like running, swimming, cycling and hiking, as it includes GPS, courses, graphs for time and heart rate and speed and elevation. This is great for logging all of my runs and rides, but it really does nothing to urge me to get up and move around during the day, whereas the UP24 DOES THIS VERY WELL!The UP24's simple UI and motivational presentation is very very good. It really works well to keep me off my butt...Thank you Jawbone. I love this thing!

The band malfunctions a lot, but customer service is great!
The original band I purchased worked great, except a few months later the button fell off of it, which wasn't a huge deal. I called customer service to see if there was a way I could reattach it but they instead offered to send a me a new band, which I thought was great. However, the band they sent me was a factory refurb and a few weeks after I received it and had been wearing it, it became very unreliable and would suddenly stop connecting to the iPhone app and syncing. At one point it wouldn't even turn on and pair with the app. While I could always eventually troubleshoot and get things working again, the band would begin malfunctioning again within a few days. Called customer service again and they sent me another replacement. This one lasted about 2 months before doing the same thing as the first replacement. I just got off the phone with customer service and because the up24 is being phased out they didn't have any more replacements available in my size. They offered to replace it with the Up Move tracker + a $50 jawbone credit, send me a replacement Up24 in a small, or replace it with the new Up2 band. Obviously, I chose to get the Up2 band. Hoping this one will last a little longer and be reliable. While the product itself is only decent, Jawbome's customer support is really great and they've always been happy to resolve any issues I've had.

About as useful and scientific as a horoscope.
I've been wearing the UP24 band about 5 months now and come to the conclusion it is as advanced, scientific & helpful as a horoscope (with a pretty interface). The UP24 "Smart Coach" (whom they should call Ogg, because: "Ogg know which number is bigger") is nothing more than a primitive numbers machine; software without the ability to gather direct data then process it into something meaningful. As is, UP24 only deals with simple data with very little context, like how many times I worked out this week vs last. (Example: I'm training for an athletic event and I had 10 workouts last week and 7 this week. The "smart coach" actually complained!, stating I should do more -- because 7 is less than 10. UP24 didn't calculate the length or intensity of the 7 workouts this week far surpassed the 10 of last). All the app cared about was the *basic* number. What puzzles me is the UP24 app is connected to, and logging data from, RunKeeper (as well as several other apps), which explicitly shares exercise duration, intensity, etc... only UP24 does not take that type of context into account. The nutrition area is a farce. I love messing around with it because all it seems to care for is fiber. I could tell it I ate fourteen candy bars but then plug in a bunch of high fiber foods and suddenly the poor score (red in color) turns green and all is okay, I guess.I don't know what to say about the sleep function except it *kind of* works. Sort of. If I wake up, switch off sleep mode, and lounge in bed reading the morning news for a bit it will still log me as sleeping. How accurate is UP24 at measuring sleep cycle? There's really only one way to tell and that would be a real sleep study while wearing the device and see how close the results. My gut feeling is it tries, but like most everything else with UP24, it's closing eyes and throwing darts to figure it out.As for build? My wife and I both've had replacements within the first 2 months. Reading Jawbone forums, that is not rare. Then again, these are worn all day/every day including when you work out. So, that's actually a lot of abuse for any device.I will give Jawbone MUCH credit for customer service. That's no joke. They are responsive and happy to help. Highest marks on customer service. Probably the best I've ever encountered. But when I see an UP24 commercial, stating it's the "world's most advanced fitness tracker" I actually laugh... And laugh hard. Seeing that it can't read my pulse, all UP24 does is either wrong, a guess, or offers feedback based on simple data it doesn't understand because it can't understand context. It's a pedometer with Bluetooth that will suck your phone’s battery life dry in hours unless you turn the app off. And then, just for fun, in order to pair you'll probably need to restart your phone. The UP24 is helpful in that it makes me aware of certain activities, like *when* I went to sleep and for how long (but those are things I could track myself since the band needs your input to tell it when you're going to sleep and when you wake). It does offer some decent lifestyle suggestions curated with links to web articles (but a lot of those are found on Lifehacker type sites). It reminds you to get up and move around a bit if you've been stationary too long (which is important, but my phone has a timer which could do the same). It tracks my steps per day (which my phone does passively in the background). So... There isn't much this band and system does that I'm not already doing without it. But I have to give credit as a very nice looking wristband, and a slick looking app that's kinda fun to use and terrific customer service. Otherwise, it is a system with a long way to go before being truly helpful or being able to understand the data it is reading (to be honest, I think all wearables have a long way to go, including the upcoming Apple Watch).
