The best pens
I am in the US Army, so I always have to have three pens in the little pen pocket on the ACU left arm. The type of pen you have makes an impression, as silly as it sounds, and having three sharp looking pens tucked away in your arm leaves you feeling prepared and stylin'. Most people try to be all fancy with three Zebra stainless pens. Zebra pens suck, its like you're writing with a large crayon and the ink frequently runs through the paper and leaves the page looking like Zoidberg squirted on it. Pilot pens are perfect. Your biggest issue will be that you can't stop people from taking them! It is very, very difficult to keep three of these pens in my arm pocket because people keep stealing them because they are, quite simply, the BEST pens you will find. These pens are light but have a good tactile feel with having any rubbery crap on the handle that will peel and fall off. The tip is fine so your writing on a page will be sharp and presentable. My penmanship improves dramatically when using a fine tip pen. The ball rolls easy and from very acute angles to the page (I will say that I have had some defect Pilot pens where the manufacturing didn't make a good ball and they didn't roll very well. I throw those out). The pen is comfortable for very long writing sessions of heavy notes. The pen seems to fit well in anyone's hand. Zebra pens are very small and people with big hands will have a tough time with them but the Pilot pens here are long enough that even a large hand will hold them. The ink is clear and will not run through any paper, even very thin paper or napkins. The pen is physically professional appearing but not so obviously flashy it looks ridiculous. These pens are not expensive compared to Zebra. They also are pretty tough, and my pen has been in the field on some nasty FTXs and come through like a champ. The end tip on these pens is just the right size for chewing and doesn't show the chew marks unless you are Ed the Hyena.A good pen is important and I've tried a number of them. This pen is the best. Everyone who uses these pens comments on them and asks where I bought them from.Pens are very important to me.

The PILOT The Better Ball Point Pen (12‑Pack, Fine Point, Black Ink) has quickly earned a permanent spot on my desk and in my backpack. Here’s why it stands out:Effortless Writing: The fine point glides smoothly across paper with consistent, bold black lines—no skips, blobs, or smudges, just clean, reliable ink every time.Comfortable Grip: I love the soft-touch grip—it feels natural in hand and prevents fatigue during long writing sessions.Clip & Retract Design: The sturdy clip attaches securely to notebooks, pockets, or planners, and the retractable tip ensures mess-free storage and convenience on the go.Refillable & Long-Lasting: Knowing that each pen is refillable makes me feel good about reducing waste. Plus, they’re built to last without feeling bulky or heavy.Great Value in Quantity: A pack of 12 ensures I always have one handy at home, work, or in my bag—perfect for students, professionals, or anyone in need of dependable pens. The PILOT Better Ball Point balances smooth performance, stylish design, and sustainability—all at an unbeatable value. Truly the best ballpoint pen I have ever used. I loved these so much I bought boxes of two other colors.
As a teacher, I have tried out many different types of pens over the years. I have used ballpoint pens, gel pens, clickers, and pretty much every other variation imaginable. I love pens and I love trying out new ones and I must say, I was surprised how much I like these retractable pens from Pilot. I have always like pilot pens but I typically don't use ballpoint pens. I typically use uni-ball vision elite pens, pilot G-2 retractables, pilot precise V5 RTs, and sharpie fine point pens. I know, I am a huge nerd but I really love pens. I was a bit skeptical when I first saw these, but I have never dislikes a pilot pen so I decided to give them a try and I am shocked how much I love them. They write like a Bic ballpoint but they are much more consistent and they have a finer point. I liked these so much that I also bought a box of red and black as well. They write very smooth, better than similar Zebra pens, the fine point allows me to write small which is my custom, and they seem to last for ever. I have pens in my backpack, in my desk at school, my car, and all over my house but I have yet to have one of these run out of ink and I have had them for over a year. There is really nothing negative to say about them. For fun I read a couple negative reviews about these pens and honestly, most of the complaints are stupid. Don't let naysayers sway you, these pens are amazing.

An OG Classic
Pilot's been making this particular pen since the early 80s. My momz used to write with this pen, back before they made this retractable model. I used a few in Middle and High School. In fact, what started me buying these again, about 10-13 years ago, was the fact that the Ball Point Pen game is just not what it used to be and I'd been remembering that style/quality/weight/look of this pen. She always had one on deck. And, it was not expensive. Pilot makes some of the best (budget friendly) Ball Point Pens on the market; and, their Ultra and Hyper Fine (G-Tec-C) lines of their Ball Point Pen Technology is also on point. At any rate, I have turned a few people onto this pen. They all remark on and are impressed with its handling, writing, balance, and ink quality. For those of you who are into good pens, and want a pen that writes smooth, doesn't feel awkward in your hand, and is lightweight yet balanced, give these a try.The way the Black ink shows up is definitely old school, too--it's not a synthetic black but, rather, a distinctive black -- almost like the distinction between, say, Jeffrey Osborne's "Only Human" and the Free Nationals/Daniel Caesar's "Beauty and Essex."
