Gleim Pilot Logbook

Unfortunately the durability of this logbook seems to have been downgraded from the first edition. I purchased this logbook in September 2019 based on reviews of its user-friendly layout and durable, stitched binding. I agree about the intelligent layout, but was disappointed to find that the pages are just glued in, not stitched. The listed ISBN (978-1-58194-574-4) is for the 2017 edition (cover reads "Gleim Aviation Pilot Logbook"). I can only assume that the previous version (2002 edition, with the "Gleim Pilot Logbook" cover as pictured in the listing) was stitched. The logbook you will receive if you order from this listing is the 2017 edition with the glued binding.

I bought a bunch of these logbooks to sell to my students. I like them because the have two separate categories for cross-country flight: all flights and those over 50 miles. Many pilots don't know it, but if you are planning to be a professional pilot the 50 mile limitation for cross-countries only counts for getting new ratings. For getting employed as a pilot, you can count every flight to another airport no matter how close it is, and add that to your cross-country time. It could make a significant difference in your cross-country total time if you often fly to nearby airports to practice landings or whatever. Many of my students plan to be professional pilots someday, and I think these logbooks will be helpful to them when they apply for their new jobs.

My instructor was impressed by this log book that he bought one as well. It has plenty of areas to cover what I’m doing for my pilot license. Although the remark section for him to sign off and describe what was done in the lesson is smaller than he would prefer. But we just write tiny, and can only get 2 lines in one box.

Newer version falls apart with light usage. I love the layout of the pages. They have all the relevant columns and it is fantastic, but my second one of these logbooks had pages falling out before I even got to the end. Unfortunately, I will have to go with a different logbook for the third.

I am a student pilot, and wanted a log book that would last longer than the initial paper book I had received. My CFI transferred the logs for me. I want to be able to open this book years from now and see those first hours! The pages are firmly stitched, not just glued. Highly recommend.
