Makes my knit/crochet life a million times better.
It's so exciting to have a fine, hand-dyed hank of yarn, but until it is wound I can't do anything with it. Before I bought this swift, I had to force my husband or one of my sons to stand with his arms outstretched while I used my winder to create a ball. They were nice about it and all, but this is MUCH more efficient. The swift is easy to set up and use. I got written instructions in two ways: I received an email when the swift was on the way, and the package contained another copy of the instructions. The swift itself is made of perfectly smooth wood and is quite beautiful. It holds the yarn just right and keeps the tension very stable for the winder, which makes a beautiful center-pull ball of yarn. I am extremely happy with this purchase. If you are a yarn crafter who buys hanks of yarn instead of pre-wound balls or skeins, you won't regret this swift.

Perfect.
I am thrilled with this swift. It's my first so I'm not sure what could go wrong but there doesn't seem be anything that could break if treated right. I think being gentle with any swift is necessary. The screws tightened nicely with very little pressure and I put the yarn on with minimum tension, not forced tightly into the crossing, as most pictures show. I just wound two hanks of Shibui Silk Cloud (60% mohair 40% silk). Not one tangle and it took about 2 minutes to finish. I can see that the mohair is beautifully intact on the silk, no lumped together spots. After winding two hanks of the same yarn by hand, if I didn't use it again it would be worth the purchase. Smooth operation, soundless, simple to use, easy to store. Thanks for a good product.

Functions as designed. Just watch for wires.
So yes, it does what it says it does. It's smooth, simple to use, holds onto the table just fine. It's everything that a swift could be. I have zero complaints about it and it works perfectly as designed..BUT, please note that this device does contain metal wires on it and they can do harm. While wrapping a some scrap yarn from a sweater yesterday, I was getting in the swing of things and then snagged my thumb on the top of the swift. There's a piece of wire that up there that twisted, cut and then pushed into place. Cleary the one I purchased was not quite pushed into place. As a result I now have a nasty gouge in the middle of my thumb. So new users beware! Double check all the metal wires on the unit before putting it to full use. It'll hopefully save you from any injury. Also double check all the knots on the twine, make sure they're nice and tight. I had one fall apart and had to fenagle it back together again.

Save your money, poorly manufactured.
I'm sorry to say I was very unhappy with the product. I was impressed when I first got the product and found most of the slats were not connected and when I contacted them, at least they acknowledged the problem. For the first time I needed to actually use it and after I connected the slates I found the knob and screw that holds the slats in the correct spacing wouldn't stay in place. It won't tighten so when the yarn is unwinding it flattens out and the yarn falls off. I think the overall design would be great if more care was taken in putting it together and a better design was created to hold the knitter in place.

Excellent Product!
The media could not be loaded. The Premium Knitter Yarn Swift I ordered shipped to me quickly and worked beautifully immediately! I wound 9 hanks of yarn the day after I received it without any problems whatsoever. It was easy to use right out of the box (see my short video). The wood is very smooth, no yarn snags. The wood screws tightened up and stayed firmly with just a little pressure (don't overtighten to avoid stripping them). The clamp fits surfaces up to 1 3/4" thick so is very versatile. It comes shipped in two boxes and the inner box is perfect to store it in compactly. I can't speak to the durability of it yet, but from the look and feel of it, I wouldn't be surprised to get many, many years of service out of it. Well worth the money!

Sustainable wood construction, but not long lasting.
So I really like that the product is made out of wood, which is a sustainable resource and much more beautiful than their metal counterparts. However, I have owned this now for a little over a year and I must say I am not impressed with the workmanship. I have not excessively used the ball winder in the past year, must stress that the screw to fasten it was never more than finger tight due to my arthritic hands, but I find the inside thread of the bottom fastener is already stripped, so I cannot secure the winder to the table anymore. I expected it to last longer than a little over a year, especially for the price I paid. I am really diappointed.

Rough wood surfaces on this Yarn Swift
I scanned the different offerings for a yarn swift to organize my yarn stash. The Premium Knitter Yarn Swift 24" seemed to be the best choice considering price and user friendliness. After unboxing, I mounted the swift on my knitting table, no problem- the cutout on the base plus tension device made a secure mount. Using the swift, I noticed no appreciable problem in winding a hank of wool yarn onto a winder. What is the problem then? It is mass produced from an inexpensive soft wood with little attempt at smoothing the fuzz from the wood or eliminating most of the burrs around drilled holes. Worth the money? Not in my book. The next yarn swift I purchase will be a more expensive, better product.

Amazing time saver !!!
I read the reviews and wondered if this Swift was as good as the reviews. I can honestly say - the reviews are spot on. I was able to wind 4 hanks (@420 yards each) in about 8 minutes. Construction was effortless & easy to assemble without instructions - common sense. The box the Swift came in makes a great storage box. While the swift will accommodate various lengths of yarn hanks, I really wish it would have worked on the non-hank ball skeins. I routinely rewind the ball skeins, so the yarn will smoothly flow as I knit. Unfortunately, the swift is not designed to accept the ball skeins. Too bad. Some clever inventor should come up with such a devise - I'd buy one in an instant.
