Ecotonix Green Cycler - Kitchen Compost Starter, Bin & Shredder, Black

I have been composting for many years and was interested in this item to see if it would make my composting easier. It didn't. There are some food items that are too woody for the Green Cycler that still had to be chopped separately. My biggest headache with the Green Cycler was in cleaning it. I cleaned the Cycler after each grinding to avoid smell and fruit flies. That involved not only taking the Cycler apart and getting food particles out of all of the grinding gears, but cleaning every part of the Cycler because there was food waste everywhere inside. I found my old method of chopping everything up on a cutting board faster, leaving me with only a cutting board and a knife to clean.I do believe the Green Cycler will work for someone else who isn't as worried about the fruit flies, smell and cleaning as I am. I wanted to give it a better rating, but felt for me, three stars was an accurate score.

I really wanted to love this item and love to recycle and compost etc. However having purchased (2) separate ones and each one broke, I just can't see spending that amount of money one something that is so cheaply made. The blades are steel and incredibly strong, however the rest of the unit is a very cheap, light plastic and just cracks and breaks. My first unit the suction cup leg broke of while "grinding" compost material and the second unit the plastic handle broke off while grinding up food scraps. It's a great idea, but needs to be made of much stronger plastic in order to be functional.(so above was my initial review then......)I wanted to edit this review because customer service contacted me when I posted the original review and asked me to give their new, updated unit a try. I received the remodeled green cycler about 2-3 weeks ago and I love it! The 4 suction cups are much stronger and the unit no longer wobbles which makes it much sturdier. The handle also seems a little bigger/thicker and sturdier, and I've been able to grind up just about anything from old dahlias & pomegranate skins to lots of other kitchen scraps for my composter, without a hitch. I usually only empty it every few days and there are no flies, no odor... It's great and I'm so happy to have it!Wonderful customer service, great idea, great little counter top unit to grind up kitchen scraps for the composter.Denise

I live in a colorado suburb where composting is pretty easy to do; the only thing is I hate having to chop up all my food waste or waiting forever to have soil to use.I love this thing not only because it was invented by a colorado native but because it is practical and easy to use. I love how cute and stylish it looks on my counter. It grinds right through stuff without any hassle and doesn't stink like most compost does.Honestly I have recommended this to a ton of friends and family and am excited to see it on their counter tops as well.****I've been using this for almost five months and I have an update to my previous review. This thing ROCKS. We've been grinding through virtually everything without any problems! You do have to use common sense about what you stuff in. Most important to us is the amount of compost that we made this summer. We have the BEST garden in the neighborhood.****

I was excited to receive my Green Cycler - Kitchen Compost Starter, Bin yesterday.I put on the handle & put in the deodorizer pack with no problem. The machine appears to be made of a middle grade plastic but I think it should hold up to its job with proper use. I have an open cabinet under my counter top and this fits perfect there, but I will have to bring out when ready to use it. I really didn't want to use up my counter top for this but it is designed nicely to where it would be okay there if I chose to do that. I have a compost tumbler and this will be great to break down my refuse instead of my usually doing it via knife. I will add to my review when I've actually used the product more, but the 2x I have used it it worked great. After all, that's what this review should be about - the performance of the Green Cycler.
