Better than described
The two bikes I received last week had SRAM DualDrive II internally geared hubs which I expect is far better than the no-name hubs listed in the description. This model was selected for its wide range of gearing as it will be used for serious road work around Vail, Colorado. Did not get the chance to try it out when I was there because of poor packaging by Dahon. Both bikes were received with bent shift rods (available from Amazon for about $6) however a call to Dahon resulted in a new one sent out without question. Haven't called on the second bike yet however I did order 4 more rods on the assumption that I might need them. The first bike arrived with some obvious contusions near the rear axle and I wasn't surprised that the rod was bent. They are heat treated and if you straighten them out they break. The next day the second arrived with the carton in good shape. I carefully unpacked it and found another bent shift rod. There were no witness marks that would have indicated that the damage happened in shipping. The rods can be installed by hand. Suggest that they ship loose. Also there is a PVC pipe that is where the seat tube normally sits. It serves to support the top of the carton so that they can be stacked without crushing the box. Once I found out what they were I knocked them out with a broom handle. There was no instructions mentioning the pipe. The call to Dahon was answered quickly and competently. The service rep explained what the pipe was and committed to shipping a new shift rod which in fact was received shortly thereafter. Without a shift rod the system defaults to the lowest gearing which kept me from trying it out in Vail. Upon returning to Houston I got the new rod, installed it and tried it out on flat land. The 8 lowest gears appear ready to tackle the steepest slopes and easily match a hybrid bike I have. The middle 8 gears seem appropriate for flat land work. The top 8 gears especially the small cogs are for balls to the wall downhill slopes. Trying to use the smallest cog on flat land will force you out of the saddle and soon you will be searching for a lower gear to maintain progress. I expect such gearing will allow you to continue pedaling on steep downhill's however I don't expect that spinning out at 45 mph is the best thing to do perched atop 20" wheels. Can't help but take a star off for the packaging. Will update in a few weeks when I get a chance to ride them in Vail. If they perform as expected I'll forget the early troubles and give back a star.Update: Got a brief ride before the snow hit. Found out that East Vail has some steep roads that will get you out of the saddle despite the low gearing. Not a reflection on the bike but acknowledgement that there can be steep roads that draw little notice when you are at the wheel which will slow a bike down to walking speeds. 30mph downhill was stable. It did get me thinking about braking such that I ordered Promax V-brake Shoe 3 Color brake shoes. This choice wasn't a result of deficiencies with the Dahon brakes just a gearhead need to upgrade something. While the bike comes with folding pedals they still stick out some even when folded. My next upgrade will be to MKS EZY mm-Cube Clipless MTN Pedals "SPD" Style as they quickly release and leave only a 3/4" (19mm) stub on the crank arms. They also serve as a cheeky security measure; nobody is going to steal your bike and ride it away. The pedal body itself is pretty small and light so it is not a great burden to take them with you. Also while the integral seat pump is clever I'd suggest carrying a CO2 inflator. You'll be less likely to need if it you put some sealant in your tubes. The big name in sealants is Slime but my serious mountain bike friends swear by Stans. Hopefully in the not too distant future we will have some good 20" tubeless tire options which reduces the occurrence of flats even more.Update May 2015: Installed the pads and the pedals mentioned above. Big improvement. Have not put many miles on them (we have two) but haven't seen any new problems. Still no tubeless tire options although I haven't had any flats. Mine came with Schwalbe tires (high quality) so I'm not surprised. Of this date don't see any new competition for this model.

Great bike for mobility.
I have had my Dahon for over 6 months now and I love it. I took my bike to an expert bike mechanic to set it up and tune it up initially (which I recommend). I love that I can drive to location where I take my bike out of my sedan's trunk and have it ready to take off within a minute. And the bike is out of sight when in the trunk so I keep it there most of the time ready to drive to great bike trails here in Albuquerque. The bike is rugged and solid and can handle my 200 lbs. of weight no problem. Like the 27 speeds but I tend to use the middle speeds the most. I bought a more cushy seat which was easy to install myself. I am a casual biker so I don't take it on rough trails (mainly paved). Recommend having your bike mechanic put in green slime in the tires.

Construction quality and weight everything is excellent.
Bike is excellent and the other three gears are in the axil which is kind of neat. Bike is really light and sturdy and my experience is great. So far going with out any problem. It fits right into my Subaru forester trunk, and you ready to use in 15 seconds.

Good touring folding bike
I bought this bike as an used condition for 8 months. I would say this is a wonderful, reliable folding bike for hills and touring. Why I say that:1) It is easy, quick to fold and folding small in package. Easy to travel with other transportation and save space for storage.2) It rides really smoothly. The frame and tires filter out a lot of road imperfections.3) 24 gears for the folding bike!! 8 for uphill, 8 for flat road, 8 for downhill. It can take you everywhere except ocean.4) It comes with fender and rack, necessary for carrying stuff for long ride under different weather.Problem:1) None. If I have to pick, the aluminium seat post and hand post is hard to clean. Maybe I don't know how.Buy it if you like:1) Climbing hills or riding long hours and want a folding bike for easy carrying and save space, and2) Spending less than $1000 for a folding bike. I got my used one for $500.Forget it if you:1) want a folding bike for speed. It is not slow, but this is not the fastest folding bike for this budget.2) are not looking for a folding bike in this budget.

Pretty solid but heavy
I've been using this bike for 2 years, 5 Times a week for 20 km per day. As far as folding bikes go, its solid and provides almost a bike like ride. I use it because it's allowed in the Montreal metro at rush hour. Its on the heavy side for shoulder transportation but manageable for a man. No problem using the bike with my 235 lbs (other than looking like a Bear on a circus bike!). A pedal dropped out of the pedalier the 1st day and i changed it for a japanese part instead of the cheap chinese part. No problem since 2yrs later.

Okay bike for occasional use. Fantastic customer service at Amazon Canada!
I had this bike for about 5 months and unfortunately found it unreliable as a regular commuter. After a few months of use, the thread between the pedal and the crank stripped and the only way to fix it was to replace the entire crank. The bike was tuned up at a professional shop, so it wasn't a case of improper assembly. I contacted Amazon because Dahon advises to contact the retailer for warranty claims and they were kind enough to take the bike back and issue a full refund, despite it being outside the normal 30-day return window. Kudos to Amazon for great customer service! My other impressions:- Generally, a pretty fast bike with a decent set of components, will tackle hills without any issues- Good, reliable shifts- Expect creaks as you ride, this is a folder after all- The tires are way too thin for comfortable city riding, Shwalbe Big Apple tires would be a nice upgradeUnless you absolutely need its folding ability, I'd recommend getting a regular bike instead. For the same price, you can get a fantastic commuter bike with premium components that will last you a lifetime.
