is a fine product to use during welding
Miller Electric Half Mask Respirator ReviewThe half mask respirator, from MIller Electric, is a fine product to use during welding, or any circumstance that may expose you to harsh chemicals or irritants. I am a welder, and I have been using this mask in conjunction with a welding mask and safety glasses. The fit is good, but my face is more slender than most. This product does have an adjustable strap so it should fit varying face sizes but one should be mindful when purchasing this product as it will be uncomfortable for anyone with a larger than average face. The quality of this mask is fairly robust as the synthetic rubber forms a good seal around the mouth and nose. The filters are also of high quality and should only need to be replaced once every two months or so with moderate usage, (30 minutes to an hour of continuous welding, 3 days out of the week).Due to the tight seal formed around the mouth and nose, air from your nose and mouth will not rise and fog up your safety glasses. As a welder this is extremely important during welding as monitoring the arc and bead flow is essential for creating a good weld. I’ve purchased many disposable respirators in hopes of holding back some irritants but in my experience they degrade during use, which is rather troublesome. This mask has completely eliminated that problem and I have been comfortably using it for over a year now. If you want to save your money, time and preserve your health; I recommend buying this mask

Great for welding
My son was tired of breathing in noxious chemicals while going to school for welding. This fits under his helmet perfectly, so he can enjoy life again.

Respirator
Best purchase of my life, I’ve been using this for welding and grinding for months. I’ve been wearing it when I grind down paint or epoxy. It’s definitely saved my lungs more than once. It’s lightweight and forms to your face pretty good, even with facial hair.

Great for all around respirator
I read the reviews and I was hoping to find something that was more compact than my 3M 6000. It is true that is is more compact and the fit is nice and tight, however, the upper strap on the 3M is much more convenient to use. Also, the filters on 3M is readily available and easier to detach and install. I am a sculptor, and use this respirator when I grind metal, sand wood and shape stones. Overall the following is my impression on this respirator:What I like about it:1. Nice and snug2. Very useful for wood, stone and metal work3. Compact and less obtrusive4. I can wear my glasses comfortablyWhat I don't like about it:1. Upper strap is not as convenient as 3M (either I have to take it off completely or leave it one on the face; hanging down the chin is uncomfortable)2. Filters cost more than the 3M3. I cannot put on my welding helmet while this respirator on

Fabulous - the best! (With one caveat)
As a woodworker I own a lot of different respirator types in what seems like a never-ending search for the elusive combination of effectiveness and comfort. This type is easily the best I have ever used and I could not recommend it more highly! Due to its HEPA filters it takes virtually all particles of concern out of the air, while still allowing very easy breathing. It is also highly comfortable and therefore easy to wear for long periods. It is light weight and comfortable. I must admit that my biggest concern when I ordered it was its small size, as I have a rather prominent nose, but as it turns out that is no problem.Alas, there is still one drawback to this respirator. When I am doing lathe work I wear a full face shield for safety. Because the exhaust on this mask is in the front center it has a tendency to fog the mask. I therefore wear a different respirator when turning wood, but switch back to this one for sanding. It is great!

Concise Review
I have been welding using this respirator for one month now, 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week - in a welding booth with limited ventilation. I have had to change the filter at 14 days of usage, as it was getting harder to breathe.Pros:-After a long day of welding, there is no black gunk in my nose ( or my lungs for that matter).-Provides 99.97% filtration of airborne particles and oil aerosols, specifically: Hexavalent Chromium, Zinc Oxide, Manganese, Aluminum. Cadmium, and Lead.-Fits well under welding hood (Miller Digital Elite).-Glasses fit well with respirator.-Does not fog lens or glasses.-Super easy filter replacement.Cons:- The filter replacement gets to be a little pricey for having to replace them every two weeks (on a 40 hour week usage rate). Conclusion, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. You can't put a price on your health. Pay a little now, and you will save a lot of money in the long run on medical bills.

Great
I paid 28.99 for two of these. They fit my face (and my son's) great. I have a beard and still feel as if I get mostly a good seal. While these are heavier than standard 3m dome dust masks they are much more enjoyable to wear thanks to the outlet check valve. When you inhale it closes so air passes through the filters and when you exhale it opens and doesn't make you feel as if you're breathing in hot air. As I'm going from either not using protection or 3m dome dust masks to these it's a major improvement. I've only used these so far for sanding and spray painting (yes I know these aren't designed for paint spray - but anything is better than nothing...and I don't spray enough to warrant an expensive proper setup. All in all I'm very happy with these and expect many years (10+ - assuming I maintain the rubber with silicone) of use out of them.
