I've always thought those retractable cord dog leashes looked silly. I've recently acquired a mini-Dachshund puppy. I don't walk her down the street. I've got an unfenced 2/3 acre lot in a subdivision with lots of people and other dogs around. I take my dog out in the yard on a regular 4 foot leash, but that was very restrictive to her. I also use a harness instead of a standard collar. Dachshund's body shape allow them to easily slip out of a standard collar unless you almost choke them.The harness that I purchased (from Amazon) is great. Fits very well and has three steps to the closure system. The last closure is two D-rings that the snap hook of the leash is attached to.This retractable cord leash has been great. It's for small dogs (26 pounds or less). The grip is kind of small for me, only three fingers fit through it at a time, but I quickly got used to that. The cord lock is well located and easy to use.The only slightly negative thing is the snap hook that attaches to the two D-rings of the harness. The snap ring is so small that it just barely fits the two D-rings. The harness is designed so that BOTH D-rings are attached to the snap ring. So, any harness with larger D-rings would have a difficult time.All things said, I really like this leash.

If your dog pulls you'll learn to work the stop and lock button like a stick shift. (Or at least I did because I want to let him walk as far away from me as possible but I don't want his pulling to tug on the gears when all the string has been pulled out.. my dad broke a retractable leash of another brand this way. So when all the string has been pulled out, I lock it. but when he comes back closer to me I unlock to roll up the excess string and then back and forth between these two until our walk is over)If you have a goofy chihuahua that goes nuts at the site of other dogs you'll have to reel him in like you're fishing.It's kinda ok with a small dog but sometimes I react and go for pulling the string, wouldn't recommend doing that with a big dog. For a trip to the vet's or any strange place it may be best to go with a regular leash for that trip.

I bought two of these leashes for our Bichon and Bichon/Cocker mix.Packaging/ Presentation: Leashes came in retail cardboard packaging placed in a cardboard box with bubble packaging.Product: The leashes are great for appropriately sized animals. They have a solid locking system that has not slipped or inadvertently unlocked through a couple of months of use. The handle has held up well to multiple drops on concrete, gravel and other surfaces. Only minor cosmetic damage has been administered. The leash also has a "heel" loop that allows you to grab a small loop close to the point of attachment to keep the animal in the heel position. The leash also comes with a temporary, choker-type, nylon collar that is great to keep in vehicles for temporary usage. If going on longer walks, a regular collar or harness is much better suited.Overview: I picked this leash out at a chain pet store, but thought the price was a bit high. I was able to get two from Amazon for the price of one in store. With Prime shipping this was a no-brainer.I would highly recommend this leash to anyone needing a quality, retractable leash.

Very well constructed, and the string mechanism is super smooth. Unlike the last type I bought, this one comes out and goes in perfectly without any knotting or sticking. You have to be careful because of the thin line to make sure it doesn't get wrapped around anyone between you and your dog, but it's to be expected with this type of design.My only issue with it is that as an average size man with what I assume are average size hands, the handle is too small to fit all 4 of my fingers in and too loose to fit 3. I've gotten used to it, but it was annoying at first and I wish they would make the handle a little bit roomier. All in all, still 1000x better than my last leash though.

Our new puppy has another 6 weeks till he is vaccinated enough to go for real walks. I got this and a comfy harness so we can practice together in our apartment. The handle is easy to hold. The clip works well on his harness. It makes no loud sounds going in and out which may scare the dog. The quick hold button works well if he starts lagging behind or trying to run ahead after his sister (our 2yr old cat) and holds so long as I do. The much smaller button is the one that locks it at a certain length and holds it there. That took me a few tries to figure out, but otherwise fine. (I have joint issues even though I'm not yet 30, so be aware if you have similar concerns.)

This is great so far. I had the 10-foot version, but a longer one is even better. It doesn't fit two fingers with this one though. You have to use a whole hand, but it's nice. A slightly longer break chord (the chord you get to wrap around a dog's neck to ensure it won't fly back into your eye) could have been longer because I use it on a cat. So far, the best method seems to be to wrap it around his chest, as I was worried about it going around his neck, and it was awkward around his front shoulder joint (right term for a cat?) where he couldn't walk very well for some reason. They should sell these regularly and market them for cats too!

I purchased this retractable dog leash to go with the adjustable coupler that I bought for my dogs,and also because my little dog needed a new leash. It came in a black with gray soft handle with a lead and extended up to 16 ft, which is plenty for my little girl. I must admit it is a little bit on the light side for when I attached the coupler and used it for 2 dogs. I really like the soft handle.The retractable mechanism works great. It doesn't take a lot of effort to press or hold the button down and the cord doesn't get stuck or tangled, maybe because it has some type of nylon coating on it. Overall, I am happy with this purchase.

The tension of the spring doesn't seem hard enough to actually do harm to you, if the rope should break (There is a included safety rope that the manual insist you use)The size and handgrip are nice; very compact. Acceptable rope distance for its size + round rope > tape rope, means that the rope won't tangle as your dog circles and circles.Only beef with the product is that the button/lock buttons are rather small and hard to operate.Definitely for smaller dogs; I doubt it has the power to stop larger, stronger dogs.

The quality of this leash is far superior to others I have bought in the past. Locking mechanism locks and unlocks quickly and easily.
