Shattered Trust: The Shari Karney Story

Very informative. It was a good movie. I was with Melissa Gilbert in every situation that came up. This is a movie everyone should see, including predators so they find out what they are in for. Didn't give 5 stars only because some situations I feel needed a little more details and finishing out some of them. Just my own opinion others may think it is fine the way it is.

I believe I saw this one time on life time and couldn't get it out of my head. I went searching for a different movie and came up with a list of movies that I have been looking for. Thank goodness for the list that helped me find this movie again. Kate Nelligan is a wonderful actress just like in little house on the prairie.

Very good movie for those who especially endured childhood molestation and or sexual abuse.

It didn't meet my expectations at all because I can't watch it as its a region 3 and can only be played in Europe. I'm disappointed and would like to return it for a refund. May I do that? I'd appreciate it, thank you

Powerful true story. .. frustrating, but inspirational. Well acted, made me cry

Very good, well cast true life film about Shari, a Aviation lawyer who dabbles in women's issues cases on the side and is approached by a desperate social worker seeking legal Counsel to secure custody of a baby to a young couple accused wrongly of sexually abusing their three year old - now taken into care. In fact the child's father is the real abuser, not the accused couple trying to bring their little girl home. Reluctant to take the case, Shari eventually reads the file and is shocked at how a respectable little league coach could be so 'evil' behind the scenes - provided he is guilty of the crime he's accused. Shari takes the case and the bitter trial for temporary custody rakes up subliminal memories in Shari that may provide answers to why she is still sexually repressed and prefers to hide her femininity behind a plain unmade up face and frumpy but comfortable oversized baggy clothes. During the trial, Shari hears typing noises and the defendent possible abuser irritates Shari with such stark denial of the accusations she physically assaults him in the courtroom, which gets her into trouble. The judge forces her to seek psychiatric help or be disbarred. So she seeks help and during counselling she discovers through hypnosis that her father also sexually abused her. This sets Shari on the path to taking on more sexual abuse cases, dumping her aviation law career and taking more interest in herself and her appearance too. When, later on, she finds out that the same little girl is again being sexual abused (her father won the case, not the couple) and is now psychotic, Shari decides to take matters in hand and change the law. The problem is that young children can't testify and have no credibility because they can't be believed, teenagers can be pressurised to drop cases against their parents and adults, according to current law, are past the age when they can sue parents for sexual abuse. So Shari teams up with another laywer trying to change the law which allows adults past the age of 19 to sue parents once they find out they were sexually abused - no matter how long those memories were repressed. Eventually, after painstaking effort and time, and a serious falling out with her new partner - a new law is eventually passed that allows adult females to get justice and compensation for sexual abuse impacts they were unaware were connected with repressed memories of sexual abuse. A good heartwarming movie.

This film was very good and in brilliant condition when it arrived. It was based on a true story and Melissa Gilbert played the lead role brilliantly about an attorney who finds out she was abused by her father .

Interesting and very sincere considering the subject a True story that shocked America at the time but needed to be said
