Works as an electronic dog 'snitch'.
I'm a professional trainer and I've used this product for several dogs. The beeping scares a few dogs, but most dogs don't mind it. I mainly use the device as an alert to the owner that the dog is getting into mischief. The receiver can be placed in different locations to discourage counter surfing, trash excavating, or going into forbidden rooms. Again, this is more of an owner alert than it is a dog deterrent. The collar isn't well made and does break easily and isn't waterproof. They have a new durable collar for sale that I haven't tested yet, but am hoping it will be sturdy. Also, getting the receiver set to respond in a specific location without affecting the other locations (such as a countertop and not the whole kitchen) can be tricky and sometimes impossible.I continue to use this product to keep better track of mischievous dogs. It makes supervising dogs easier and allows the owner to watch a TV program without worrying if their dog is digging through the trash or eating a pizza off of the counter. If you have a sneaky dog that gets into trouble this sonic barrier may help you out.

This saved our cats life
We live in Florida with wild cats and alligators, our cat that was a rescue decided to start running out as he got earlier, trying to connect with his primal nature I guess. Well behind our home is a swamp filled with gators, mocassin and woodland with wild cats. We tried everything, spray repellents around the door, putting up child gates. This collar did the trick. The best part is the amazing support and the commitment the company stands behind their product. I highly recommend them.

Garbage
This product doesn't work period. The receiver has no way of actually judging your cat's distance from it, except VOLUME. That's right, a microphone checks the intensity of the ultrasonic pulses emitted from the collar. Why is this poor design? Simple. PLENTY of things emit ultrasonic sound. Microwave? Check. Stirfry? Check. Brushing a carpet? Check. I've been startled by the alarm doing basic household chores more times than I can count. If you're going to put this in the laundry area, or kitchen, be prepared to get frustrated.Secondly, the product is VERY erratic. At the same "range" setting, I've had the alarm go off when my cats were anywhere from 1m to 3m away. I've also had it not go off at all. All kinds of things affect this, from the type of floor in the room (carpet vs tile), to the angle you place device at. If your cat isn't directly in front of the product, it doesn't fire.To add to that, the collar batteries are standard button cell batteries, the type you can find at any hardware store, even supermarket. They have been modified with a few sheets of aluminum and marked up to, what was it? $30? I forget. Despicable. When it comes down to it, this product is extremely primitive tech, and does not work as intended. Save your money.

Cat keep away
I purchased this sonic collar to shoo my kitty away from the doggie door. She is an indoor cat, but i found her shivering on the outside of the doggie door once. She had pushed out, but wasn't sure how to get back inside. I put the sonic colar on her own collar, then placed the alarm at the doggie door and set alarm at 2ft range. I watched as she walked toward the door, the alarm screamed and she took off. With her it only took one time, she avoids that area for now.I gave the product 4 stars instead of 5 because, I noticed when I took the collar off and laid it on a table she would walk by and instantly find the collar. I tried hiding collar but she immediatley found it. I held collar to my ear and discovered it has an audible constant buzz. With a cat's sensitive hearing I personally feel it would be cruel to leave te collar around their neck all the time. So, my plan is to let her wear it ocassionally when i see she needs a little reinfrcement training.

Way Too Fragile!
This device works great! My Lab had no trouble learning to stay away from the area protected by the Sound Barrier or get an annoying beep blasted in his ears. However the downsides are: the alarm sounds when you use a blower nearby or even kids yelling or loud laughing, more annoying is the batteries as mentioned by others being made specifically so that they are not commonly available, but my biggest complaint is that the dog just has to scratch his neck, as dogs do, and the cover is knocked off and the battery and cover lost. I have now bought 3 of these devices in the last year. I would try some other option if I could find it.

Works somewhat
My cat sometimes is stopped by the noise but since nothing else happens sometimes she makes a run for it & ignores the warning noise.

Not for small/medium dogs.
Great product but I wouldn't recommend for small-medium size dogs as the part the dog wears is cheaply made. Our 25 lb dog broke it within an hour of putting it on. He shook himself and the "collar" separated from the sensor device and flew across the yard, knocking the cover off.I had to tape it back together. We didn't use it much and ended up giving it away.

You're mounting an ultrasonic speaker next to your pets head
This product appears to work by having the collar emit a continuous ~40 kHz sound, which is then detected by the receiver (the receiver broadcasts the sonic deterrent when triggered). As people can only hear up to about 20 kHz, the collar appears silent to us. The problem is that a cat's hearing is sensitive to frequencies well beyond 40 kHz (they can hear up to about 60-80 kHz). So to use this product, you'd need to attach a collar that continuously broadcasts sound ~5cm from your cat's ears, which your cat can likely hear, and from which your cat will never be able to escape. Not sure if this will bother the cat, but seems to risk being inhumane. Dog's hearing is less sensitive, but they too can hear frequencies beyond 40 kHz. More information in the product description would have made this more apparent.

If only it was all there ... ...
Got this in the mail today, BUT, NOT IN ORIGINAL PACKAGE AND NO RECEIVER WITH IT. AND NO INSTRUCTIONS FOR RETURNING IT EITHER, I think I have been ripped off. Trying to get in tough with Amazon to return this junk.

Excellent device, terrible collar.
I will say right now, the collar itself sucks. Cut it off, cut it up, burn the confetti, and scatter it throughout the globe. As for the actual device, top notch! I put it on my cat to stop her from eating our new kitten's food. I'll randomly hear a loud beep followed by her running. Very entertaining and very effective. The frequency in which she has attempted the kitten food has decreased drastically. Maybe about once a week now as opposed to several times per day before.
