Try it, it's worth it!
Traditional to Ethiopia this is a spice mix not just a single spice. Deep dark red color when cooking, strong pepper taste that is fully of umami and deep rich flavors. Try something new! We did, stuff was cheap and now we have a new fav spice to break out to end the monotony of "what's for dinner".

Great blend, but could be stronger
I like the taste, but I wish it were either stronger or more plentiful. It's very easy to go through a large amount.

Saves a lot of time and effort
The recipe I had for shiro involved making your own berbere. But 90% of the effort that went into the stew was making the spice mix. So I saved myself a lot of effort and got this mix. It worked great, and the recipe is delicious (New York Times). Some spice mixes are worth buying rather than making, and I'd say this is one of them. If you like spicy (hot) food, this is a mix worth having on-hand.

Smells really pleasant
It's definitely spicy. Fresh, quality product. I used it on baked chicken and am looking forward to trying it with other foods.

"Authentic" is a stretch, but it's something.
As an Ethiopian who's had berbere sourced from many different places, I'll say that this is only somewhat reminiscent of the blends I grew up on or enjoyed in Addis Ababa. This blend tastes good (just *good,* compared to normal berbere), and the heat level is a bit overdone. I'll give it 3/5 stars as it'll definitely add some character to your dishes but if you're going for authenticity, my tastebuds and I are in agreement that you're probably not well served using this for your injera or as a staple in your cooking. We're also looking at a pretty steep price, and you can probably put together what you have in your spice cabinet to make berbere of similar quality.

What and Unexpected Great Flavor
The flavor was very surprising to us. I purchased it to make a dish I found in a Bon Appetite magazine that used a whole chicken. I make the recipe and we LOVED it. I'd never heard or tried it prior to that. We just tried using it on some pork steaks that I put in brine then covered with my Berbere Spice Blend. It too was wonderful. I'm really impressed with the flavor profile. Very spicy without being too hot. It's closer to a medium hot than a mild but should be fine for most people.
