What!?! Item was used and damaged with SAFETY concerns, shipped as new.
Product was packaged as if from the manufacturer (re-packaged after previous return?) but was damaged upon arrival and missing about half the hardware to put it together. In addition to some cosmetic damage the internal drive wheel (see pics) was nearly stripped out and was still installed at a misaligned angle. This item was partially assembled when it arrived out of the box but the unassembled components were in new and stapled shut plastic bags. I could have put together the rest and never seen the damaged drive wheel under a safety cover. SAFETY - If I had operated this machine as it was the damaged wheel (when it broke apart) could have seriously injured me or others nearby. Where is the QAQC for inspecting these items before shipping them out? I am returning it for a NEW item (as I paid for!) and will follow up after it arrives.

Fire hazard. You get what you pay for I guess.
Worked fine for a day. Next session, the motor bogs down and starts venting smoke, and the casing gets hot enough to burn.Needless to say I'm waiting on my return.

Wonderful Tool!
I give this sander a 5 out of 5. It has excellent power for the size of the machine. It arrived after two days and I had it assembled and working in 20 minutes. There's only one thing I am not fond of. The clamp lever for the belt sander is made out of a flimsy plastic that will break I not handled with care, but this is easily fixed with a hex bolt, it's just an inconvenience. The dust cover for the disc will get in the way and make it difficult to change a disc pad. I just left the cover off for easy access. At one point I was using the disc and a friend was using the belt. It would strain the machine if pushed too hard, but we could both manage to work at the same time if needed. I purchased it mainly for detail sanding and knife work. I had an old file I wanted to turn into a knife, and between the disc and the belt I was able to make a fairly nice knife! I hope this helped give you some more information. It's a great product.

Does not work with 36 grit ceramic belts.
Decent 1x30. It has some power but does bog down under pressure. The only issue I have with it is the tolerances do not allow for 36 grit ceramic belts. Making knives I spent a good amount on the 10 belts and this guy won't take them. I'll probably just file down the area for clearance but some may not want to do that. The side sander is not worth using. I have a WEN 4x36 belt sander with the side disc grinder that works much better.. I use this very sparingly as I do most work by hand and thought this would save some time. Included a photo of internal pully system.

Do not buy! Very cheaply built and has no power.
I purchased this belt sander several months ago. It sat in the box unused until this weekend when I finally had a need to use it. When I unboxed it the first thing I noticed was how poorly it was made. After I put it together the disappointments continued. As soon as I started to sand a part the belt would come to a complete stop! To say it is under powered would be a gross understatement. I don't think you could file your nails with this.

It seemed ok when it was new, but after minimal use I started having issues with the motor.
I purchased this to put the edge grinds on knives that I make. I haven't been using my sander very long and the motor barely moves now when I turn it on. It eventually start to operate normally after several minutes. But now the motor starts to smoke. The tracking adjustment for the belt hasn't worked correctly on my machine. When the machine was new, I was happy with the power of the motor. It seemed to maintain belt speed during operation while grinding knife blades and also shaping handles. Not a knock against the machine on this point because it wasn't designed specifically for blade smith work, but the position of the motor becomes an issue when putting an edge grind on the left side of the blade. Grinding the right side works fine.

Good first knife grinder.
So I thought I might be interested in knife making, and while there are many methods for grinding the blade the smart money seems to be on using a belt grinder. For various reasons. So I tried it, Lo and behold I liked it and decided to pursue it. This grinder is the best (cheapest) way to see if this hobby is for you. There are a good variety of belts available for it and they are inexpensive. That being said you will burn through them very quickly. The machine is pretty roundly trashed on the blogs it is loud and clanky, very under-powered and the work surfaces are not meant for serious use, e.g. are not smooth and cannot be properly leveled. All of this is true. So why did I give it 5 stars? Well, for 129USD you can find out if this is worth pursuing before you drop 2500 on a Burrking or even 700 on the 2x72 grizz. I have subsequently upgraded and my 1x30 still sees a lot of use lately I have been keeping a surgi-sharp honing belt on it and using it to but a razor edge on the knives that I make and even those I did not. It's a great machine as long as you know it's limitations.

great little tool for this price
This was a cheap investment and I I got more than I expected. It does a fine job and is much quieter than the screamer it replaced. I use it mostly for little touch ups and it has performed well. It does not move when simply set on the bench. My little dust connection is one and one quarter inch and my large connection is 3". This has a port somewhere in the middle, that's my only beef with this unit. One review stated there was too much plastic. The only plastic is shielding and the second rate table guide - but what do you expect with this price. It's a hard worker and runs steady while sitting still on the bench - I got my money's worth and it was all I wanted.
