Smooth shave & good save of $$
The Norelco 5500 is my first electric shaver and after my third use of it I picked up my own shaving technique which has resulted with a smooth and clean shave. One is instructed to use it in circular motions but by doing so on my first try it only took longer and the shave result was not very smooth. It all depends on ones facial shape to determine to either go up & down or left and right. The flexible head helps cut well around my jaws and high cheek bones and there's no need to press hard to shave. I dropped the expensive razor blades because of constantly getting small fine cuts and because they didn't last long. After 16 yrs. of their use I said that's enough and a friend recommended the Norelco electric 5500. Found this one here at a very good low price so I picked it up. I'm using twice a week and have recognized a little extra cash in my pocket because I dropped the blades.

I paid full price, and would again.
Yes, I think that I may be the only reviewer who did not get this shaver for free in exchange for my review. I paid full price for the shaver on Amazon and would do so again. I previously bought a Panasonic Arc 3 and it was terrible. It wouldn't touch the hairs on my neck and so I went back to a norelco shaver. I'm so glad I took a chance on this razor. Takes me about 90 second to get a smooth shave. The razor gets all the tough spots and is gentle to my skin. Not sure why they didn't default the speed to turbo as why would you want a slower shave? I use turbo all the time.So good I'm tempted to buy another if they ever go on sale. It's hard to find a good shaver. This is one.

Wash shaver regularly, tricky to replace blades
This is my first electric shaver in many years. I use it dry without water or shaving cream, before a shower. It is convenient, and shaves close enough for work, but it takes more passes than a wet razor. Hard to shave the side of the neck and the Adam's apple. As my hair turns from dark to gray, it is harder to see my stubble, so I must feel each part of my skin to see if it was already shaved. I need 2-3 passes to shave a 2-day stubble. Turbo mode helps a little and makes the shave feel smoother, probably because the blades cut more cleanly at a higher speed. It charges fully in about 90 minutes. When I rinse the razor, water drips out of the charging socket; let it drip dry for 12-24 hours before charging. The cleaning indicator is always on; I may have waited too long before rinsing the razor for the first time. The battery indicator, battery low indicator, replacement head indicator, and travel lock work as expected. The original blades lasted about 2 years and 2 months. It was fiddly to remove the small retaining clip that held each blade guard and blade in place. Replacing all three took about 20 minutes. It would be easier if it was designed to replace the whole head of the razor including blades, blade guards and frames.

Excellent Clean and Smooth Shave
As with most Norelco Shavers I've had over the years, you can expect (and it delivers) a good, smooth clean shave. The heads are designed to fit the contours of your face without dragging, snagging or burning. It is easy to hold, although more than once I accidentally his the "off" button. The one feature I am not keen on is the removable trimmer; i.e., remove the cutting head to replace it with the trimmer, and back again. Experience suggests that may be a "break" waiting to happen. We'll see.

I am using Neutrogena's Shave Cream for sensitive skin and let me tell you it's the most comfortable shave I've ever had
I am 75 years young and my beard was getting harder and harder to shave until I tried this razor in the wet mode - WOW - what a difference! I am using Neutrogena's Shave Cream for sensitive skin and let me tell you it's the most comfortable shave I've ever had. The process is a little messy, but the results are well worth the effort. I wet my face, apply the shave cream, and I apply hot water to the shaver head as needed. The razor is very easy to clean. I rinse and dry my face. Done! My facial skin is no longer dried out and I get an excellent shave. I actually look forward to shaving!

Great Value!
In the past, I've only used Braun & Remington foil shavers so this's my 1st foray into a rotary blade. I'm coming off the Braun series 3. The differences are noticeable. The shave is closer, smoother and takes less time. I've got some minor irritation near my Adam's applle but it's getting better. The only downside is that the trimmer is a detachable part that's swapped out for the head, making that process a bit clunky. I would highly recommend using pre-shave lotion.Philips Norelco Electric Shaver 5500 Wet & Dry,S5370/81, with Turbomode and Precision Trimmer

My shaves from day one were terrible. It would not cut the stubble and did ...
I have been using Norelco razor for over 60 years and have 10 old ones I no longer use. My shaves from day one were terrible. It would not cut the stubble and did not give me a smooth shave. I read the instructions over and over and used it exactly as directed. It is false saying your face will get use to the razor. It never got any better and I could shave 30 minutes and still not a good shave. This is the worst razor that have ever purchased. I have to use a very old razor to shave. This is just not right. To spend this much money and being on SSI it is a ripoff. There should be a recall on this unit. Most things have a recall if it is something that does not work as advertised. I read all the replies and hardly anyone is that satisfied. I am in the market for a new one, but if it is no better than than this one I am throwing my money away. Give some kind of rebate or something on a new razor. I never complain about anything, but this is something I use everyday and very personal. I am sure I am just wasting time, but this is just not right. GOD BLESS KEEP YOU. just ole brent
