Ok device with lousy software
So, I've only had this band for a day but figured I'd go ahead and post my initial review of it. I have used it today to track a jogging workout and my steps and such all day. Let me first say, I bought this as an alternative to the FitBit Charge HR. I got one of those last weekend, and really liked the heart rate monitoring features but couldn't justify 150 dollars just for heart rate monitoring. So, I found this one as the cheapest wrist worn device with heart rate monitoring (didn't want to have to bother with a chest strap monitor every time I want to go work out).Today I wore both this device and the FitBit Charge HR to compare.-SoftwareI have to mention this first because the rest of the review hinges on some software choices. The Mi Fit software is absolute garbage. It has very few features and is just plain meh. Most of the stars are deducted due to this lackluster software. The only thing it has going for it is the ability to sync with Google Fit.On the flipside the FitBit software is pretty nice. It's well polished, full featured, and easy to use.The solution is you really have to get some 3rd party software for the Mi Band 1S to become truly useful. I ended up going with Mi Band Tools, it looks nice and lets me activate continuous heart rate monitoring when I'm getting ready to workout.-Heart Rate monitorPosting about this first since this is my main concern. It seems to work really well. At least as well as the fitbit charge hr. At the end of a 30 minute jogging session after comparing the values they are pretty close throughout the work out. I have compared a few times manually checking my heart rate to the readings from the device and most of the time they are close enough to satisfy me.-Steps counterAgain here the two devices registered close to the same number of steps. The Mi Band registered about 100 steps less after all day wear. I don't really care about the step counter but it seems close enough to the Charge HR that for those that do it should be adequate.-BandI find the Mi Fit 1S Band to be much more comfortable to wear than the Charge HR. It's not as wide, it's a little softer and contours to my arm better. The one downside is how the device itself goes into the band. With the band being rubber, you just stretch it and pop the device into it, and it's held in place by tension. There have been other people reporting of the device falling out and losing it and I can see that as a definite possibility after taking the device in and out to charge it a few times (you have to remove it from the band to charge it). There are solutions, like getting a something small to wrap around the band to ensure it doesn't come out, but that takes away from the comfort some as you'd have that extra little thing between the device and your skin poking into your skin. Maybe I'll come up with some solution over the next couple of days while wearing it, we'll see.-Sleep trackingThis is one thing I can't really comment on for the Mi Band 1S really yet since I haven't worn it to bed yet. But I can say the Charge HR sleep tracking was severely disappointing. After a week it simply could not get my sleep correct and I stopped wearing it to bed. It would have crazy times of me being awake for 2 hours in the middle of the night when I wasn't and things like that. So I doubt the Mi Band 1S can be any worse than that, if it's better then great, but I doubt it will change my overall review. And really that is all there is to it. FitBit has a lot of other software based features that this device simply doesn't have. For example neither the Mi Fit app, nor Google Fit will use the heart rate to estimate calories burned (I was kind of surprised Google Fit doesn't do this). Also, FitBit gives you some nice graphs to review your workout performance that could be a good training tool. Another thing I was surprised to find Google Fit does not do. And finally, FitBit has an auto detect activity feature that is convenient, you just go start your workout and FitBit will figure out that you were working out. You don't have to tinker with your phone before starting and such. So, all in all the FitBit software is vastly superior to the software solutions available to the Mi Fit Band. That said, for my personal use I'll still go with the Mi Fit Band, simply because the software shortcomings I can get around to have an affordable wrist worn heart rate monitor. We'll see if my opinion of that changes after I've had the device for a few days.

Great
I've had this device for about two weeks now and am completely satisfied but not blown away. I bought this device because it was super cheap, included a heart rate monitor, and had favorable reviews. I wasn't expecting much if anything from the pedometer as it's worn on the wrist- how does it know my steps?Anyway, the heart rate monitor pairs with the mi fit app and you should also get a third party app that shares with Google Fit, if that's something you're into. Works great and pairs my steps, recorded either from the phone or the mi band, with my heart rate. I've seen the Fitbits and I just don't get them- then they cost more than $50! This thing is perfect for me- someone who was curious. But I also bet it's what most fitbit users would be happy with. One big difference between the mi band and a fitbit is the lack of a screen and memory. The band is worthless without a phone in range. The mi band also doesn't tell time and can only use the LED lights when it vibrates. If the lights were programmable, if I could interact with my phone by touching the device... This would be a five star device...UPDATE 6 MONTHS LATER:I still love this thing, but it isn't perfect. There have been times when it didn't connect to the charger right or the heat rate lasers were off and wouldn't turn on. Those were easily remedied but Fitbit users might get annoyed. Sometimes this unit seemingly randomly vibrates and flashes. I say seemingly because there's not literature which explains why it's happening but it seems to happen near where i think I've reached my step goal.I was able to find incredibly cheap replacement bands in fun colors on eBay and bought about 4 of them. All in all, I still wish it had a screen and a button. I will certainly be purchasing the new mi band 2 soon!My girlfriend uses a Fitbit. Because of the construction, the band pulled away from the electronics due to water. The mi band is basically waterproof. The Fitbit does have a warranty, and she did get a new one, but replacing something isn't a solution to a poor build. She is very close to ditching the Fitbit for a mi band 2 now that they have a screen as she uses her Fitbit as a watch too.
