It Works!
I read reviews. Hesitant to buy due to the confusion surrounding the styrofoam ring, difficulty separating the top bowl ring from the bowl, and the function of the floating unit that controls water level. Relented and bought this bowl. IT WORKS AS DESCRIBED AND REALLY CONTROLS WATER TRAILS! Unpackaged the bowl. Examined the styrofoam ring. Obviously not a functional seal as the two ends do not even meet. Took advice of another reviewer and threw it away. Undertook practice, before putting into use, separating the top black ring from the bowl unit. No problem. Set bowl (empty of course) in vertical position, resting on the bottom edge of the water bowl. put my hand into the bowl, hooked fingers up under the ring to spot where ring and bowl come together. Pressed down with thumb of my hand on outer top edge of ring, while applying pressure to lift using the fingers underneath, to separate ring from bowl. It snapped loose. Cleaning is a breeze once taken apart. Have learned there is less "pink" bacteria build up in the standing water in this bowl than was in the open bowls I previously used. I find cleaning once every4-5 days is very sufficient. One does have to watch the available water level to keep sufficient water available for pet. You will quickly master the observation skill related to the amount of water available. My dog is a big drinker so I have to fill more often because he does not have an open bowl with more than a pint always standing available. It is now a habit for me to add water after having used this for almost 3 weeks. I introduced the bowl by putting normal "max" fill in it and sitting it beside dog's regular bowl. For half a day he just looked at it, but when I let his old bowl run low, he simply switched over with no hesitation. Left old bowl near for 2 days, then removed it. He drinks normally from his new bowl with no change in drinking behavior. No more mopping up water slop 3-4x a day or more! Seldom is there any water drooled, even on his new silicone feed/water mat. This bowl is GREAT and I recommend it reminding buyer there is a slight learning curve to use it without "making problems for yourself." Snapping the upper ring off takes practice for a quick, easy separation, but it does come. Refilling water more often takes attention, but quickly becomes habit and is rewarded by no wiping up tasks. I would not recommend this bowl for an outside dog as on a hot day, or if dog Is a heavy drinker, it is conceivable he would take the available water level below the level where he can get a good drink. For a small outside dog, or light drinker it will not be an issue. And after all, water slop outside is not the cleanup issue it is for an inside pet. The only other matter to pay attention to is that of not adding too much water. There is a fill "max" line on inside of bowl but I do not find it visible, while just looking down on the bowl. I have learned to gauge the "top off" quantity based upon the low water level. I use a plastic container that I have established as being big enough for a "nearly empty" top off amount, while also able to transfer a small "top off". You learn, by eye, the needed amount. If you keep adding and the water accumulates to beyond the max line, the inner plate will begin to float upward and your dog gets confused by its new position. You can tell looking at it that It has floated upward. This bowl works and can really reduce or eliminate the towel wipe-ups from your best friend's sloppy drinking. In 3 weeks I have only had to do a wipe up twice, and I attribute that to his coming inside, after play, and wanting a really big hurried drink.

You will not be disappointed
Best bowl ever. Been looking for something like this. Did not need to train. Dogs went right to it.

Almost perfect..
Love this product and another we bought years ago. All of our dogs quickly learned to drink from it. There is also a lot less mess when they drink from this bowl. One thing, hence the 4 stars is that the styrofoam used as a float can age more quickly than the bowl and it’s a bit more difficult to remove to clean. I also didn’t see a way to replace it when it gets old.

Great for camping/travel
Great for RV camping, resistant to splashes and accidentally being tipped over. Heavy duty and doesn't slide. Does what it's supposed to, but my bearded doodles still drip water from their faces on the floor.

The second one I bought this one for a different vehicle.
They work really good. I do recommend cleaning it at least once a week depending on use. The wide base makes it almost impossible to tip over.

It sorta does what it says...
So my dog cant seem to keep the water she drinks in her mouth so i thought this would help after reading the reviews. The premise is pretty simple, it has a "floating" bowl within a bowl that only allows a certain amount of water into the floating bowl that the dog drinks. It sorta does that. The issue is half the time i see the inner bowl kind of crooked so it's wedged against the bigger bowl causing it not to drop and allow water in it at all. The part that lets water in is lower then the rim that causes it to float so its supposed to let water in and go down as the water gets drank. Problem is that wedging situation i mentioned. It cause the part that allows water in to be crooked and lets in a fraction of the already limited water resulting in basically no water for the dog to drink. My poor girl was licking the bowl itself trying to push it down to get some water. So while it does "work" and cut back on her slobbering her water everywhere, but since it only sorta works. The reason shes not slobbering anymore is cause she cant get any water period. If it wasn't a hassle to return for $20 i would return it and just keep cleaning up the water she spills. Idk if my situation with the bowl is unique to just mine since i haven't seen any reviews mentioning what i'm talking about. But i wouldn't buy it again after seeing it for myself.

Best design out there!
This is the best water travel bowl ever! I’ve bought three so far. I’ve tried others, but this one far outweighs them all. Deep and wide enough that my medium size dog can still get a full lap with their muzzle, and my car, truck and camper floor stays dry.

This dish has a MAJOR FLAW!
The dish its self is a nice design. It has a major, major flaw. You are not able to wash the part that floats with soap. ALL dog’s water dishes need to be rinsed daily and washed at least once to twice a week. They are nasty. There are 3 parts to this bowl. The middle is not washable with soap. There is a Styrofoam ring tucked into this part. It soaks up water to cause it to float and drop as the water is used up.Since it is Styrofoam and it holds water, it also HOLDS SOAP. YES, you are able to remove it but that is time consuming and I fear it will tear up rather quickly. The genius who thought this up needs to go back to the drawing board. This individual has no conception of how slimy a dog’s water dish will become in nothing flat.I wish I could return this hunk of junk. It took over an hour to make sure I had the soap out of the Styrofoam ring. It isn’t any fun taking it out or putting it back.Of recent, I have developed an eye problem and my vision is not very good. So, for me, this was a most difficult task to say the least. I would have purchased on at my local pet store but I am not driving at the moment. Amazon didn’t carry the dish I wanted and this seemed like a nice fit: WRONG. The principle on which this dish works is a great principal. You need to use something other than Styrofoam as a ballast.I give this a ONE STAR RATING.
