CedarHouse Ultra-Premium Liquid Smoke: All Natural Hickory Liquid Smoke - 4 FL OZ

I bought this liquid smoke to use in many recipes, from pulled pork to a smoky salsa. I wanted something that was high quality and not made using artificial flavoring and chemicals. As usual, I did a lot of research and learned that there was a way to extract the smoke flavor from real burning wood, using a special machine and water. So, I tried to find something that was made this way and I stumbled upon the CedarHouse brand.The flavor of this liquid smoke is very good and you can tell it's the real deal. The liquid is brown and black stuff tends to precipitate and stick to the bottle. The ingredients are just: water, hickory smoke, mesquite smoke, nothing else!The only downside to this liquid smoke is that the flavor tends to get lost and it's not as potent as I was thinking. They say that a little goes a long way, but while you can very easily smell even small amounts in food, the flavor is just not there. Also, if you slow cooking something (for example, making pulled pork in a crockpot), it's better to add the smoke flavor toward the end. I've found that when I add it in the beginning, the flavor tends to get lost and I always need to add extra.Because of this I feel like 4 stars is a fair rating. This stuff is very good quality and has a good flavor but it's not very potent. Love it! Love it! Love it!I'm so glad I bought this. The main reason I chose to try this brand over others was not only the reviews here at Amazon, but it’s been recommended by numerous chefs, and even doctors trying to get people to eat healthy (no meat). It took me several days of reading reviews and researching the safety of "smoke" in a bottle, but I pulled the trigger and I'm glad I did.The smell and taste is perfect - just like bacon or baked ham hock. And a few drops goes a long way (making it well worth the $12 price). Plus it's sodium free, 100% natural and safe (just natural wood smoke flavor that absorbs into water). No additives, no artificial flavors, no artificial colors or preservatives, No MSG, and made in the U.S.A.I've used it several times to make mock ham & bean soup (no ham, but tastes like it has ham, see photo). It allows me to make healthy soup, hearty and full flavored, without the fat from ham. This also makes it perfect for vegetarians and vegans who miss the flavor of smoked meats but don't want to actually eat meat. After years of using Colgin liquid smoke we went searching for something better. We bought the CedarHouse brand based on other reviews, and we were impressed from the first time we opened the bottle. It smells great, tastes great, and a little goes along way. We are almost entirely vegetarian and this is a great way to add flavor to all kinds of veggie burgers, seitan, tvp, vegan jerky, and other vegetarian protein sources. We also put it in our homemade A1 sauce. The price is a bit high but since we are still on the first bottle despite using it a lot, I think it is worth it.

I've had a bottle of this liquid smoke from cedar house for several years now, it's quite good, and nice to know that there's no chemicals or additives to it, just water and smoke! Some how, I have managed to use almost 1/2 of the bottle lin that time. You really only need a few drops for things like soup, or marinades, or whatever, to get a bit of smoked flavor. Do your self a favor, and put a few drops into mashed potatoes, or even steel cut oats... or a bloody mary.

I have used other liquid smoke in the past and I have never been impressed. When this came, it was completely different.The smell is intense and very smoky... very much what I would like my food to smell like. It is very concentrated -- strong smelling and a very palatable smokiness that will really enhance your food. After smelling this, I am about to dump the other liquid smoke I purchase in the past. I am very impressed with this brand and I will definitely purchase again. It has one of the highest reviews on amazon for a good reason.If you are looking for a really good liquid smoke, get it. It is worth more than what you pay for it.

We make our own jerky and the recipe calls for liquid smoke. We could use the smoker to make jerky but I have a perfectly good dehydrator that is cheaper and easier to run - but I need liquid smoke. Another thing that is hard to find up north (it's getting annoying being a Yankee). So I turn to Amazon and found this product.We've made a few batches using this and it is perfect. Just opening the bottle fills the kitchen with an aroma reminiscent of when I use hickory chips in my smoker or on the grill. Read the ingredients - this is the real deal.It's not cheap but a little goes a long, long way. Highly recommended.

This is my first time buying liquid smoke. I got it for sous vide.Pretty good taste. If you put a lot, it almost feels like you are eating smoke which is very strange and confused my mouth haha. Just don't over do it! Also, expect to smell the smoke for a few minutes from just opening the bottle.I would recommend this though. Goes well with pork. Didn't do much for my cornish hen though.

This seems to be a better liquid smoke than others Ive tried. The local grocery had some when I ran out of this and it was a totally different color, however smelled similar. The flavor was different and thats likely because the other one was made with a bunch of different stuff, this product however, smoke drippings. Sounds gross, but tastes great.
