On Target
This method is old school and it works. It was recommended by my instructor/mentor and gave me more motivation to practice. When I started playing some of the exercises on the first five pages or so, it sounded like a song sort of v. exercises. It made it fun.Get this book at the right stage of your lessons and you should have a pretty good idea of fingering and not need the fingering chart. If you buy this book before you are ready, than the fingering chart like anything else wont make much sense. It could be made better maybe, if there was an outline (syllabus) similar to that of the Advance Method Vol.1 which I purchased elsewhere. Than again there's a method to the madness.I'd definitely recommend this.

good quality construction, straightforward exercises.
haven't bought one of these in 30-odd years. Still has the sturdy, heavy-duty cover build to resist being dragged around by a younger student.I bought this to help me get back into practice playing the sax after a 30-odd year sabatical. Simple - after all I already play other instruments and can read music, I just needed a book for a Bb instrument.I can't find the advanced student version I have for the flute, so I'm guessing at the comparison - but this is "intermediate" in the sense that a student who really makes an effort would be "advanced" by the end of high school.

Nice useful book!
Great guide for a relatively inexperienced learner who wants to advance to the next level. Practice exercises are mixed in with actual tunes.Fun, easy to use and yet effective resource.Even though the design and presentation of the cover is very modest, this book is definitely worth buying and working with if you want to improve your technique and broaden your repertoire.

No changes in 60 years
I have an old copy of this book from the 1950's, so was interested to see the updated version. It turns out that this issue -- from the 90's, I believe -- is virtually identical. I compared every page and only found one word that had a different spelling; no substantive changes in contents or format. So, if you want a really old classic, this is it. It was not what I was expecting, but since my old copy smells musty, I kept the new one!

Good step up from elementary
Been using Rubank for years. - intermediate book introduces things like more varied articulation , and settings like f, ff, fff, p. Pp, ppp crescendo etc. good next step up from elementary

Just Do It!
Have only been playing alto sax for 11 months but found this book very helpful in working on scales, tone, articulation and expression. Challenging for my skill level, but that is what is driving me to work hard on these exercises. Also has pieces that you can play along with another as a duet which makes for some fun practice sessions.

Well worth buying
Bought this book because it was recommended by my saxophone teacher. Not a huge fan of the music inside - but that's just a personal thing. The exercises in it are very good and have proved to be very helpful.
