Q: Once the batteries are charged and the light stays lit, can you leave the controllers on the station without overcharging or harming the batteries?

All rechargable batteries would prefer you run them down until they are totally dead, charge them up and then remove them from the charger as soon as they are full. If you want to maximize a rechargable battery's lifetime, this model is always best practice. However the real question is, how much more quickly will they wear out if you, say, just tend to leave them on the charger most of the time? It's sort of a statistical thing. A very few will have to be quickly replaced, a few probably it makes no measurable different. But for most, it shortens their lifetime by just a little bit, maybe 5 - 10%. There was a time that it made a bigger difference, but with modern batteries, not so much. The reason manufacturers tell you not to just leave devices on the charger all the time is just that's the advice that exposes them to the least potential responsibility. Just keeping it in the dock when not in use adds some organizational convenience. It means you never have to think about where to find the controller is or how much charge it has. So, say the battery might last 2-ish years if you really nurse it. For the most part you'll probably hasten it's demise by a month or two if you just leave it in the dock. Is 2 years of convenience worth having to replace the battery a month or two earlier than you might have otherwise, and running a small risk it might fail sooner? I think most people would say it was, but that's obviously up to you.
