exactly what was needed when my arkon holder broke... arkon should be rewarded for selling replacement parts rather than forcing people to buy the entire unit.

I was looking for a way to mount my GPS at dash level (not windshield), without using anything sticky. I guessed that this vent mount might work if clamped to the top-level (non-movable) vent fins in my Saturn Aura. It has indeed worked well for that, with two small qualifications:1. I had to remove the bottom "kickstand" part on this mount because my vents are so steeply raked that this little prop thing wasn't doing anything in my situation and--even folded up against the mount's body--it was actually causing the vent clamps to be angled up a little too high, thus leveraging them to lose some grip. In some situations, this little prop might be useful, but it wasn't in mine, and it was easy to pull off just by squeezing the plastic part and prying it out with my hands. It could be put back just as easily if you need it later, and there are actually two different mounting points (one a little higher, one a little lower) to adapt to various vent setups.2. The vent clamps have interlocking angled tips (picture two tiny opposing triangles, whose tips pass each other along the horizontal plane) that allow easily slipping them on, and (almost) equally easy slipping them off the vents. It holds pretty well on my fixed vent blades, but with a little pull it would all slide off. I solved this by taking two small interior molding trim fasteners I had lying around and (once the vent is where I want it to be positioned) jammed them under the little round space you can see just behind the attachment point to the mount's main body. Being on the other end of the vent clamp see-saw, it helps keep pressure on the clamp's vent-side jaws, so they can't as easily flex open and let go. I suppose small pieces of stiff foam jammed in there would work just as well. (I'm surprised no manufacturer has come up with a better locking mechanism on this principle--rather than just relying in the springiness of the plastic, which makes the vent clamps a little loose.)The ball joint for the Magellan mount holds well, and--as plastic goes--this product appears overall to be a serviceable chunk of polymer. I'm glad I bought it, even if it still did take a little fussing around. Assuming it doesn't just fall apart, Id' say it's hard to beat for the price.

I really like Arkon products but this one turned it to be a disappointment as it is not a true and secure fit. The moment I knock it reaching across the dashboard to adjust the temperature controls it falls off and is a pain to reposition.Contacted Arkon support and they recommended the upgrade which I purchased septate and holds nicely (see my other review).Would not recommend this item to hold heavier smartphones or GPS'. Get the upgrade.

I bought this air vent mount because it will work with the car dock (same size ball)for the Motorola Atrix, and it works rather well. You do need to be rather steady putting the phone in and out of the dock since the universality of the mount has some limitations from an engineering perspective. But once it's in there, it works surprising well and steady. One exceptional feature is that this will actually help to cool the phone, which becomes quite hot when it is used in GPS and other modes.

I like the Mount for my Magellan GPS. This keeps it out of the window area. Much more conveniently located. There were no instructions provided - had to wing it. I only wish that I could tighten the adjustable angle better - it tends to shifts easily. On the whole I would recommend it.

Not what I was expecting. It doesn't fit too well in my Jeep Cherokee Latitude. Holds the cellphone perfectly, but need some adjustment for the AC.

works perfect on the GX470 and 997 Porsche, cheap and effective (iphone 5S).

I like it's intent, but the clips are very cheaply made and it doesn't hold very well. It's flimsy and with the Florida heat the clips have spread after just a few days of being left in a hot car. disappointing ! I'm going to try and modify with metal alligator clips.
