Great jack for cars of all sizes and small/medium pickups
I bought this back in 2010, so I figured it was time for a review. I'm not a gear head... But I've changed enough flats in my time to know that the cheap and DANGEROUS scissor jacks that ship with nearly all vehicles today aren't worth a crap. I wanted something I could stow in my trunk for emerengcies. I've used it three times in that period and it's made an otherwise pain in the rear-end job a snap.Torin is a chinese brand, but unfortunately unless your spending hundreds or even thousands, American made racing jacks are hard to find. Their quality control from what I've been reading seems to be hit and miss. But mine has been fine. Materials and machine work don't feel cheap to me. Everything is tight fitting and works as it should. The weight is perfect for my use at under 30lbs. If your using a racing jack on a garage floor I don't see why you sould care if it's 100lbs as long as it rolls. But lifting it out of a truck...YOU CARE! It's compact size leaves me plenty of space in my Lancer's trunk. The two section lift and release handle is perfect for this too. Make sure you bleed this thing as the included instructions state when you unbox it!I've lifted my Mitubishi Lancer, my friend's Toyota Camery, and my father's F150. It never complained even once. The lift speed was fine with me. I don't remember how many pumps it took, it wasn't 3 but it wasn't rediculous either. People make too much of a fuss over that (unless they really are a race crew, in which case SPEND the money and buy American!) Most recently I did lift the F150 however I really would recommend a bigger jack. The capacity was okay more or less. But the height was a challenge. An unloaded half ton is right around 5500lbs, one corner should be within rate spec, but your pushing it. Do yourself a favor and invest in a 2.5 to 3.5 ton rated model with better reach and a bigger piston. One final word... And this really should be common sense... NEVER and I mean NEVER craw under your vehicle when up on a jack. Buy some jack stands with nice large base pads and a few wheel chalks! And make sure it's solild before you get underneath. I've personally been there when a vehicle comes down unexpectedly. No one was hurt but that was pure luck!

Lasted 10 Months - Dead
Pool of pretty blue hydraulic fluid on the garage floor after 10 months of VERY LIGHT usage. Would not buy again. Worked great for when it worked.

Worked without me referring to the instructions
I agree that the instructions are very poor. However, I was able to figure out how to bleed the hydraulic system pretty easily and the jack worked fine after I bled the air from the system (took ~10 minutes). We'll see about longevity but for the price and how it's working for me right now I certainly recommend this jack. Also, this jack fits comfortably under my sport-package BMW 335i, which most jacks don't from what I've read. Also, with this or any jack, ALWAYS use jack stands if you're under the car. The jack failing shouldn't ever put you at risk, so if you're doing anything that requires the car to be in the air for more than a few minutes or if your safety would be affected by the car dropping, use jack stands!

Outstanding Jack Torin 1.5 Ton
First...... follow the directions and bleed the pump. Very simple. Open the bleed valve on the top of the pump and open the pump valve by turning the handle to the open position(in other words the pump wont lift). Now,hand pump the jack several times very fast and then tighten the screw back down on the top of the pump housing. DONE. Easy enough. Now attempt to jack up one corner of the car. No, not a thirty ton tank. It's only a 1.5 ton lifting jack. Jack should lift the car or item very easily. Use jack stands after you have finished lifting the car into position. Better safe than sorry. Never rely on just a pump jack, always put stand(s) under what your working under!! That's just common senseAs for the pump leaking. well i've found that most guys try to lift something too heavy and blow out the gaskets and that's why they find the pump broken down the road a week later or after a few uses. Get a bigger lift if you need to lift more weight! A few bucks spent now saves more in the end!I live in a cold climate i even used the jack in a freezer where the temperature was 26 degrees. No problems there either. So, why so many complaints? Hmmmmm, my guess faulty or just trying to lift the heavy stuff and figure it's the pumps fault. Amazon has an excellent return policy and Torin is helpful. I now own three of these jacks and couldn't be happier.Works well under a Camaro SS 2011 650 hp.... Even under a 25hp John Deere riding Mower..... happy lifting my friends!!!Update............ Still going strong and using daily! February 9,2013

Started strong, then failed . . .
Honest, this jack will stop working. I used it effectively for a few months with my race car then the jack simply stopped functioning. I followed the instructions exactly as they were presented to get it going. I did not abuse this jack, it was not used to lift anything beyond its capacity, and it was stored in a heated garage. I tried to use it a week ago and it simply would not lift a thing. Really, don't waste your money. It's not a good value if it does not work. More importantly, DO NOT TRUST this jack to hold-up a car as you crawl under it.

Not the best Quality jack
Always make it a good sense to buy jack stands or have a backup Jack. Purchase this style of Jack as it is low profile for My low cars. followed the instructions on bleading the air but, when I fully extended the jack at Max it let off pressure and started coming back down on its own. What's that about? Only bought it cuz it was a good deal but it could have cost me more just got to learn how to use it properly.
