My 6 year old has low confidence, and gets very anxious. She chose her own affirmations today- I choose to be brave, I choose to be confident, I chose to be proud and I chose to be excited. We had a dentist appointment today usually this is an ordeal. I sit on the chair with her on me to have her teeth checked and she doesn’t want to open her mouth etc. But today she sat in the chair all by herself opening her mouth letting the dentist check clutching her cards. The look on her face when she had done it, priceless. There are some longer paragraph affirmations which are a bit over the head of my 4 and 6 year old the shorter snappier affirmations work better for us. So far so good.

This is a really good resource for getting young children to start developing a growth mindset.I am a secondary school teacher but I used these cards with my 6 year old son and it has really helped him in moments where he needs to develop a bit of resilience in for example his school work. His teachers have also mentioned that when he can’t do something very well in school, he will say things such as, ‘I can’t do it well…. Yet. But I will keep trying and learning’. This has been really lovely to see him develop like this.
