Product Description Light gas hobs and stoves quickly and safely with the Master Class electronic gas hob and cooker lighter. Rather than produce a flame, it generates a spark. This makes it easy to use and safer too. Simply turn on your stove's gas, then push down the button to produce a spark to light the burner. Because it uses a spark, it requires a flammable material (like household gas) to ignite so theres less chance of accidents. It features a large smooth satin-finished handle, so you can maintain a tighter grip as you light your hob. It offers maximum safety for complete confidence. The ideal tool for lighting a hob or oven without an igniter. Useful Information Wipe-clean only Powered by a single AA battery (not included) Box Contains 1 x Master Class Electronic Gas Hob / Cooker Lighter, 23 cm (9").

Beware
I don't normally write reviews but after purchasing two of these I now feel a moral obligation. The first one broke down, I gave it the benefit of the doubt so ended up buying a second one because they look quite nice and thought I was a bit unlucky. The second one lasted me three months. At this price and this rate of breakage, I shan't repeat. Thanks, but no thanks. Avoid if you want a longer-lasting product

Sparkling performance
For years I have had a piezo gas lighter, and an ancient battery-powered lighter held together by lots of sticky tape. I could never find the correct position to light the hob with the piezo gas lighter, but the old battery lighter with its continuous sparks, worked first time, every time. A week ago it gave up the ghost completely.I did not want the additional complexity of a lighter with liquid or gas. The Master Class Electronic lighter is the only battery-powered continuous sparker that I could find in the UK. I had no difficulty in fitting the required AA battery, despite my advanced years. I was delighted that it worked just like my previous one. The only thing it lacks is a ring to hang it up with other utensils, so loses a star. I note the comments by others concerning problems regarding the plastic cap and contacts, so I will have to see how it performs. At the moment, I am tempted to buy another for the caravan, or as a spare.

Only lasted 7 months
This lighter worked well initially, but completely stopped sparking after 7 months. Very disappointing considering the other positive reviews and neat looks of the product. I tried several new batteries but it was completely dead. I can only assume the electronic circuitry has failed. I wont be recommending this product or brand to anyone else.

Elderly father loves this
I bought this lighter for my dad as a replacement for the gas lighter he had been using for many years and which had stopped working. It was a bit more expensive than what he had before, but he is delighted with how easy it is to use. He suffers from arthritis but finds the button very easy to press and as he uses it to light the grill as well as the hob, he also finds it easy to light the grill using this. The fact it only needs a single battery which easily slots into the bottom of the lighter is a bonus as well. All in all he is very pleased with this product.

Oh dear!
Firstly, as usual excellent customer service from Amazon. The 1st one of these I received was D.O.A., it just wouldn't fire up. I tried different batteries, even tried them in different ways round just in case the instructions were wrong. Nothing, Nada, nope.Straight on to Amazon returns and within 24 hours another one was with me...this time....It works! Although I have to say the build quaility and packaging of these things is poor. Amazon's packaging is fine, well a little over the top but the manufacturers horrible blister pack, well yuck. On top of that it doesn't even protect the product very well, I suspect that button is very prone to damage in that pack.So anyway...I have a new one it's working but this thing does not instill confidence. For a start the battery door is pathetic and very difficult to shut, I think it will probably break within a year. This could be made so much better with a little though to quality of construction even if it meant it cost a pound more.I wouldn't mind so much if there were other similar ones on the market, you try finding a battery powered piezo lighter...not easy. This is for my 85 year old mother who has trouble with the manual ones that require quite a lot of pressure to spark.Well...off to light some gas rings
