Always Use The Correct Products For The Job!
As a former Kirby Salesman, I should have known better than to try to substitute Kirby shampoo with laundry detergent. After trying to clean my carpet a few times with such a poor substitute, and watching it get darker and dingier, I finally sprang for the proper cleaner designed for my Kirby. Soaps are just that - Soaps. Surfactants. Dish soap, laundry soap, hand soap. They're all surfactants. Kirby shampoo is not a surfactant. It is a chemical cocktail that cleans the carpet. Thats why its called "Dry Foam". The first time I ran the correct cleaner through my Kirby I instantly noticed a difference. After doing the first half of the carpet, it was amazing how dingy it had become. The Kirby shampoo was clearly cleaning the carpet, where the substitute had not. Even my high traffic area was quite improved. While I did like my house smelling like fresh laundry, the lavender scent is quite pleasant as well.A few things I noticed:After using the laundry detergent, the carpet felt slimy. Like a kind of sticky goo film was on it until I vacuumed a few times. Even then it always felt sticky. With the Kirby shampoo, the dry carpet is a bit stiffer after shampooing, but as soon as you vacuum (Which is part of the suggested procedure), its like walking on a nice, soft, clean, cloud. The other thing I noticed was dry time. While using the poor substitute, dry time was 3-4 hours. The Kirby shampoo takes 2 hours to completely dry, at the most.I also noticed that clean-up was a lot easier. The Kirby shampoo rinses away clean with just cold water, taking the dirt with it. The laundry detergent had to be washed away in very hot water, along with all the dirty sludge it created. And the last thing I noticed was belt slippage. The detergent made the belt slip, which created a LOT of black...goo. That black goo ended up in my carpets, making them look even dingier. With the Kirby shampoo, the belt doesn't slip because the chemical isn't slippery. In fact the Kirby shampoo has even gotten a lot of the stains from using the detergent out! After finally getting it right by buying the correct product for my Kirby, and seeing the error of my ways, I bought the gallon size. I use 3 cap fulls at a time, and I shampoo twice a month.I cannot be happier with the Kirby shampoo. It did the job right the first time, and doesn't fail to live up to the trusted Kirby name. The moral of the story? Always Use The Correct Products For The Job!

Outstanding carpet cleaner!
This works better than anything else I’ve tried for removing spots , including cat barf stains & grease & foot traffic spots. I highly recommend it & will buy it again. Buyers beware that there may be an additional postage due though. I had to go to the PO & pay $5.51 for postage due to receive my package.

Works great with our old Kirby vacuum
We have a 1960s Kirby vacuum that was my grandfather's. Although we have a more recent vacuum, I kept this one because of its run shampoo capability. We have a beige carpet in one of our rooms, and it was getting spotty, so my wife asked me to shampoo it. We'd used spot remover on specific spots before, but they helped temporarily if at all. Ordered the shampoo, and took out that old shampooer. After going over the carpet, all the spots were either significantly reduced or fully removed. Worked great! Might work with other brands, too, but definitely worked with the Kirby.

Carpet Shampoo
We just got the Kirby Sentria about six weeks ago and so far the carpet shampooer is the feature I have used the most. This shampoo works much better than Resolve, smells a lot better, and dries faster. It got out cat vomit and various food stains, but the real test came when the carpet got five blood stains that ranged from the size of golf balls to the size of tennis balls. I had to go over the stains more than once. The first go-over actually lightened them significantly, then I waited for it to dry and pre-treated the carpet with peroxide (it didn't hurt the color of our dark-teal carpet, so I suggest this for blood stains) and went over it again after it stopped fizzing. The stains are still very faintly visible to me, but I think that's because I know they're there. My main complaint about this is that you have to use quite a bit of shampoo per tank fill. I can see the bottle going very quickly at a house with small children or a lot of pets.

Kirby carpet shampoo suds
The best carpet shampoo I have ever used! It cleans so well and leaves a great fresh scent behind. It dries very quickly and then just vacumm for a clean fresh carpet. Do spray any stains prior to shampooing. I found it years ago when my daughter was young. I bought a Kirby back then. My Kirby is now gone but I still use the carpet shampoo and always will!
