Yes but not huge amounts. If it gets too full it will stop picking it up. Then empty it out and you can pick up more. A shop vac is better for large amounts.

Can I use this vacuum for the interior of cars?

Short answer: Yes. I vacuums auto carpet very well. Long answer: You really would not find it very convient. If you pull the vacuum to far toward you it will tip over. You would need to hold the housing and the wheels all in one. I have used it because I have an SUV and I put the wheeled part in the back. The hose did not reach (stretch) to the drivers seat.
