I Hate You--Don't Leave Me: Third Edition: Understanding the Borderline Personality

Very useful book!
It is helping me to better understand the mental health journey my granddaughter is on, while she is working with her counselor. I was not at all knowledgeable about borderline personality disorder. I feel more compassionate about her mood disorders and sometimes erratic behaviors. I wanted to show compassion and some basic understanding.

Mind-Blowing for Readers Unfamiliar with the Disorder
I definitely recommend this as a place to start if you or someone you know is dealing with BPD.The book is written for a general audience and doesn't require any formal experience with psychology for therapy. The book is full of anecdotes describing the disorder, in addition to the DSM criteria and formal research information about treatment options. The anecdotes are really important because BPD behavior is all over the place, manifesting differently from patient to patient. If you or someone you know suffers from BPD, you'll find that some of the anecdotes are irrelevant, but others are so hauntingly similar to your own life that you'll swear you wrote them yourself. This book is also pleasantly up-to-date. I'm reading another book now that was published in 2003, and the major difference that I notice is that the prognosis for fixing BPD is a lot more optimistic than it used to be. The 2003 book paints BPD as a very challenging disorder, resistant to treatment. This book is more optimistic, and has data to back that optimism up.

Informative read
My daughter loves this book as a person with BPD. It was suggested for her to read by her mental health professional. And she explained that it’s very helpful to her because it makes her feel like she is not alone in her process.
