Works so far but has glitches - Update 12/20/18 - working with a small adaptation in usage pattern
12/20/18 See below for my previous review. This battery back is working well. It still has the same charging flaw but now I just make sure to hit the charge button when the phone battery gets to 30% and the battery back recharges the phone. A few times the phone has gotten low enough to shut down. If I start the battery back charge cycle before I turn the phone back on it starts up just fine and continues to charge to 100%. This battery will charge a dead phone to 100% while I'm using it and still have charge left over in case I need it later. Overall I'm satisfied with this and just need to adapt my usage a bit to compensate for the 'programming glitch'. Since I don't ever take my phone out of the back I haven't run into any problems with the connection failing. I would recommend not taking the back off unless absolutely necessary. Also, the reports that it won't fast charge with this battery back connected are not correct. It still fast charges but can take longer if the battery back is discharged because that needs to be charged along with the phone battery but it still charges just as fast as before. So far this is a handy battery back. However when my phone battery is very low and I plug it in to charge (phone on or off) while within the battery back it discharges my phone battery. Even if I leave it plugged in all night the phone is dead in the morning and I have to activate the battery case to charge my phone. This does not happen when the phone is above 20% or so but if below 15% it will do this every time. Clearly a glitch in the control chip programming. The connection to the phone's USB C port is very wobbly and I can see why it would be vulnerable. I haven't taken the phone out of the case so I suspect the connection will remain OK but if I were taking it on and off I expect it would eventually fail.I like the ability to re-charge my phone without plugging it in and this case will certainly charge my phone from zero to 100% quite quickly. The case does get hot while charging the phone so I worry a bit about the long term reliability of the battery since it suggests that the current regulator isn't the best and/or that the quality of the internal battery isn't great. All in all I wouldn't recommend it. I'll keep it as it is handy and the only one available for my LG G5 but I'm not real impressed. I've had other battery back cases for other phones that were slimmer and much more elegant in operation and never got hot while charging my phone.

A few usage points not plainly covered in the description.
With over 80 reviews so far I've noted a few points not mentioned.- This battery case has to be manually turned on and off. It does not automatically switch over when the phone battery is low and it does not automatically turn off when the phone battery is fully charged.- The "Fast Charging" indicator will not display when using a fast charge power supply but still charges as if at 2.1 or 2.4 amps.- The case is smooth and slides easily on sloped surfaces. I added Dragon Grips rubber textured, nonslip decal tape to my case and am very satisfied.- OTG will NOT work with case attached. (It would be great if someone could invent a phone, or other device, that would accept a charging cord and OTG at the same time.)- I've noticed no change in signal reception with the case and a metal plate for my magnetic mount attached.- External speaker volume appears to be the same as without the case. My car doesn't have Bluetooth so I place my calls on speaker-phone and tuck the phone between my sun visor and the ceiling on the car and have no problems hearing or being heard.- The external charging indicator lights are very bright. I added a piece of clear tape over them to which I applied blue permanent marker and another piece of clear tape to protect it. This darkened the lights enough as I charge my phone next to my bed and the flashing of the lights are distracting.Otherwise, I'm rather pleased with this product. 5 Stars if future case texture is made slip resistant and the charging indicator light brightness is addressed.

Huge but fits the need
Though it's a giant hulking case, it is what I needed. My G5 was losing power much too quickly throughout the day. I'm trying to avoid having to go purchase yet another phone after having this one for 2 years (because functionally it does a great job). So this was a decent compromise. Overall it performs great. The only complain, and the reason for the 1 star reduction, I put this phone in my pocket, and the matte finish has already started to rub off. I'm on my 3rd week of owning it, so that is disappointing.

you know how useful it is
So, this is a niche product, and if you need it, you know how useful it is. It's big, it's heavy, but it's a damn sight easier than lugging around a separate bank and cable. The volume buttons work well, though you lose some of the tactility (you can't really feel if they're working, but they push pretty easy.) I do wish it was a little easier to take the phone out of it, just in case I need to swap out the SD card or do a "hard" sim reset. All in all, it's a solid buy.Made it so I can use my phone all day without worrying about running dry.

Breaks Easily
This product, if it's working, is great. As advertised, it greatly increases lifetime of your phone on a single charge. However, it is not robust. I recently dropped my phone, and while my phone was undamaged, the plug that connects the battery case to your phone sheared completely off. I would not recommend this product if you think there's even a chance you might accidentally drop your phone (which is why everyone uses phone cases these days, right?).

Works improperly.
It is a great phone case as far as appearance goes but, i have had it for a few days now first few days it charged quickly. After the first few days it charges like crap if i want them to charge up fully i have to seperate the case and the phone and charge them individually. Case and point i have had this thing on charge with the phone and the case for 8 hours the case is charged my phone is not its at 57% and this is the first time it has been in use for the 8 hours and all programs in the background were stopped.

Such a handy item to have for my phone, ...
Such a handy item to have for my phone, considering my battery drains quickly from all the games and apps I use. I am, however, a little confused on when im trying to charge the phone and the battery. When plugged in, it charges one or the other and you have to switch it using the power button on the back. But there is no indication of which is being charged. It shows that your phone is being charged, but it will be a small trickle of battery life, while the external battery is charging full. Out of the two weeks ive had it, Ive woken up twice to a dead phone because I had the setting on wrong. Should insert a light to say if the external battery is charging, or if the phone is charging.

Giant case with mssing accessory
I just got this case today and will be returning it immediately. I don't know how good the actual battery is as I decided not to even try it. A few reasons:- no chaging/sync cable- microphone not working well in hands-free mode, it's not picking up the voice well, probably due to case construction which hides the microphone- case not tight enough around the upper part of the phone, there's noticeable play- it's positively huge. No added power can justify the monstrous resulting heft of the phone.I really enjoyed the PowerBear battery and back plate for my LG G3... this is not in the same league. Granted, the modular construction of G5 makes it hard to come up with something great.Good company but a mediocre product IMO.

Like mentionned in other comments
Like mentionned in other comments. Where is the usb cable included? PowerBear should dedicate someone to read the comments of other users that already wrote about that missing cable. In general I really like the product, gives fast access to a charger (like a built-in charger). So finally I can rely on my G5 poor battery that was not reliable at all before this purchase. Also, I'm a little bit disapointed with the front cover. I thought it had a full glass protecting the phone from the images on the site but finally it's a cheap plastic shield not fixed on the cover that makes bubles and dust like I hate when trying to apply it. I already removed it and I'm looking for a real glass cover... So another purchase! too bad. So, my 4 stars are for the protection of the phone in general and the included charger!

Stopped Working Properly After A Few Weeks...
I purchased and received this on April 4th of this year. A a little over 3 weeks later, I noticed that the PowerBear would randomly stop charging my LG G5 after a certain period of time (anywhere between 5 - 15 minutes). The fix for this was to restart my device and then power on the PowerBear, which would then charge my phone to completion successfully without shutting itself off. This was an inconvenience, but since it's encouraged to restart your device on a regular basis anyway, it was an inconvenience I could overlook...Now, nearly two months later, the PowerBear continuously shuts itself off after at least 10 minutes, even after restarting my device. I take great care of my devices and accessories, especially if I pay $50 for it, so I can assure you I have never dropped this, spilled anything on it, charged it excessively, or done anything else that would cause this product to malfunction in under two months of use. This is simply a defective product. I really can't be bothered to go through the hassle of returning this for a replacement, and since I'm past my refund period, I'll just consider this a $50 loss and move on.I did enjoy this for the short period it worked, and had it still been functioning properly, this would have been a 5-star rating. Unfortunately, I have to give this a 1 due to the fact I haven't even had this for two full months before it stopped working. I'll continue to use it as a case though, since it does protect the device itself pretty well, and I don't mind the bulk.
