Perfect marriage between old school anime and dramatic graphic design
As you can see from blauereiter's review the book really is generous with it's physical size and scope in showing Otomo's beautiful artwork.Otomo marries typographic messaging with his otherworldly imagery in unique and impactful ways. His illustrative fine art take obviously influences his design sense, and it does so for everyones enrichment. The end result is a marvel to look at and is quite inspiring for Western graphic designers who are used to seeing the same U.S.A design trends in Print and Communication Arts. My highest recommendation. As a bonus inside of the cover is a collage of Akira images taken from the movie and there is also a free loose-leaf Akira poster nearly three times the size of the book.

Excellent book
Highly recommended book. The large format and quality printing allow the artwork and design to be properly appreciated. Otomo's work as a designer is also top notch, so I can't think of any negatives.

The biggest, most complete collection of Otomo poster art available.
The media could not be loaded. To see more pictures from the book, please visit my blog via my Amazon profile link.Posters - Otomo Katsuhiro X Graphic Design is a gigantic sized, sumptuous collection of the famed anime director's poster designs. There are already a couple of excellent Otomo Katsuhiro art books ( like Genga: Otomo Katsuhiro Original Pictures (Japanese Edition) by Otomo, Katsuhiro (2013) Paperback, KABA 1971-1989 ILLUSTRATION COLLECTION & Kaba 2 By Otomo Katsuhiro Artwork 1990-2011 Illustration Collection ) out there, so how is this one different ? Points are as follows -1) The element of graphic design. Books like Otomo Genga and Kaba 2 features Otomo's illustrations pristine and in their unvarnished state; in this book the emphasis is on seeing Otomo's art work as a completed product in poster form, incorporating Type and graphic design.2) Scope of genre/work. Included in this book are posters that feature Otomo Katsuhiro's foray into other disciplines other than anime, like live-action filmmaking (Mushishi), World Apartment Horror, as well as illustrations for books, amusement partks, events, etc.3) Updated portfolio. Posters feature Otomo's latest work up till late 2013, including illustrations for the animated film Short Peace and Casio.4) Interview/notes in English language. Near the end of the book there is an interview with Otomo regarding the design process of his posters, as well as footnotes that provide additional background information on his various projects - these are seldom available in English. This is the most comprehensive collection of Otomo posters (more than 150) available, and the sheer quantity, quality and sumptuous size of the prints make it one of the best art books I've seen this year. My highest recommendations. Some technical details - This book is identical in size to the Otomo Genga art book, which is huge ! The reproductions are crisp, and the paper quality is very good - it's thicker and feels more durable than what was used in Genga: Otomo Katsuhiro Original Pictures (Japanese Edition) by Otomo, Katsuhiro (2013) Paperback.

Posters by Otomo Katsuhiro
Posters by Otomo Katsuhiro is packed with the famous anime and manga artist's most recognized works. For those unfamiliar with Otomo, he is the artist behind Akira, Short Piece and a few other anime he has created. Each page is filled with color and I can get lost just looking at the pages. There's some really inspiring works of art in this book. It's super interesting going through Otomo's scope of work and I can't wait to get my hands on something similar to this book. It's awesome! As an added bonus there's an Akira poster inside that looks badass. This art book is a Japanese import, but don't worthy it is mostly just art. That being said, it is available on Amazon, so get it before it goes out of print. The art is incredible, so if you're a fan of the Akira I recommend picking this book up. In the beginning of Posters there's a brief introduction written by Otomo about his life and career. In his introduction Otomo talks about his inspirations from rock music and American Cinema.
