Incredibly fast, sturdy, reliable laptop
I have owned this laptop for six months now and it has performed absolutely flawlessly ever since. The only downside, at least for picky people, is that the case is & looks older. This has no impact whatsoever on the functionality of the laptop, the components are new. I've listed some of the pros and cons below:PROS*Easy to upgrade, the older case is easier to open up than more stylish, modern models*Comes with a Solid State Drive*It comes with a large amount of RAM*Decent battery life*Super long charger, it can reach anywhere, which I find very convenient*Tiny light to illuminate keyboard if you find yourself in low-light conditions, works okay*Has an eSATA port in case you want an external hard drive & 3.0 usb portsCONS*It's about as heavy as a large, soft-cover book. If you don't mind the extra weight for having awesome performance at a decent price, this is the laptop for you*To decrease/increase brightness you have to go to settings, there is no shortcut (the one it has does not work). You might be able to figure out how to fix it, it didn't bother me that much.*Does not have a great sound system, but headphones or external speakers can fix that*Does not come with an HDMI port

Great Computer, Lousy Power Cord
I really like this computer. I wanted something simple, sturdy, and reliable. All I want to do is write on it - I'm a writer and needed a laptop. The reviews were solid. It arrived in like-new state, booted up impeccably, and has been performing wonderfully. I love the keyboard - so much more substantial than most. It's a tactile pleasure. Yes it's chunky, but I have two small kids and electronics are vulnerable. I needed something sturdy, and this is it. My only complaint is the power cord. The prongs on the plug are bent and one is broken off entirely. Sometimes I have to jiggle it to actually get the computer to take a charge. So I'm probably going to have to order a replacement power cord. But the computer itself is great, and it came appropriately packaged in bubble wrap.

Great bargain!
Found this 2013 model recommended on several YT videos as a good choice for a quality-but-low-priced laptop in 2018-19. Compared to today's all-plastic models, this is heavy but not too heavy - I like that it's solid! The refurb included Windows 10 on an SSD, and except for a 1366-by-768 screen the specs (64bit, 2.6ghz dual-core processor, 8GB DDR3 DRAM & 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port) are in line with today's consumer laptops', so I'm expecting this to last several years. It starts immediately and gives good performance for basic student/office work, web browsing, and video-watching. I used the Affirm payment plan when purchasing, so I'm paying less than $20/month for 12 months & no interest for a quality laptop.

Has a lot of issues.
I bought this product almost a year ago now and it's been rife with issues. The first one was a battery issue--no matter how many times I changed the charging cable and the battery, it has issues with charging. This has been semi fixed for now, but I'm wary that it'll stay fixed. On top of that, just recently the keyboard has stopped working. Both the "B" and "N" buttons have stopped working as well as "-", "+", & the backspace button. They bounce so they should still be working. I tried to submit a claim through my two year protection plan, but it says that it should be covered under the original warranty...which I wouldn't have, because it's a refurbished computer.Overall, I'm rather disappointed. I didn't even get through two months without an issue, and I wish that I payed more attention to the bad reviews.

Very good product for teaching
I use laptops in computer programming classes that I teach in an after-school program to students in grades 4 - 6. I have purchased five of the refurbished HP Elitebook 8470p systems for this. I received them all in good working order. Setup went smoothly. The systems are of uniform configuration - that is important for my application. I do not want my young students to be distracted by multiple configurations of the systems on which they learn. The price for refurbished systems makes this a feasible alternative vs. purchase of new systems. And, overall performance is better than found on the new sub-$200 systems that I tested.. I went in to this with some concern regarding used computers. So far, it has been OK. I have only used them in two classes, to date; therefore, this may be a premature moment in which to offer an evaluation. But, based on setup and initial use by students, they are quite satisfactory.

Decent, but there are issues.
Decent laptop for the price, although there have been some issues. The screen came with a portrait orientation as default, which I've fixed. It also has this weird thing on the upper left that makes it look like the screen cover is delaminating from the screen. Additionally, I am extremely upset with the battery life. I am only getting about 30 -40 mins before it dies. Otherwise, the performance seems pretty good, it boots up fast and the buttons are all in great condition.
