A great value! Negatives are
Purchased one year ago, and has been in service about 11 months. It has worked very well and has sometimes been run continuously for several days , without fail. A great value!Negatives are: this design could freeze up if not cleaned and dried when out of service for a while. It sounds like a commercial freezer when it is running.I would buy another, it is a good value, very reliable, and durable.

works like a champ
works like a champ. It runs 4 sprinklers with pretty good pressure, stays primed with a foot valve, I ran 2 garden hoses from pump to 2 sprinklers then 2 more hoses from those sprinklers to 2 more sprinklers. Hoses and sprinklers place next to fence (50' lot) so you don't see them. Then I plugged it to $17 electronic outdoor timer from lowes. The result is an automatic sprinkler system for 50' lot about $100.00

Try any other pump pump
I had high hopes for this pump, but it failed.1) the outlet leaked. No amount of thread tape, lubricant, or force could get anything on tight enough to prevent a steady leak from occurring. At best I got it down from steady flow to a slow leak. If you find that acceptable, keep reading.2) not suitable for ponds, pools, gardens, or aquariums. I recirculated quite a few gallons through the pump and the result was a tank of water that changed from clear to gray, had visible sheen on the surface, had an extremely strong smell of engine oil or some other petroleum product, and globs of rusty good. There were also some long stringy things floating just beneath the surface. I left the pump and tubing primed overnight and ran again just to see if it would rust. A very orange/brown cloud came out of the pump. Prior to initial test, I filled a clean stainless steel tank with fresh tap water and used clean 6 foot runs of clear tubing. Any foreign material had to come from the pump. After draining and cleaning the tank, I recirculated fresh, clean water again with the same unpleasant results.3) manual states "no maintenance required" but a sticker on the back of the pump says to spray with lubricant before and after each use. It doesn't say where, but one can assume they meant the small hole in the center of the rear. Usually a manual would state this.4) the pump seemed to move a decent amount of water and ran smoothly with the exception of several clankish/grinding sounds that started after about 15 minutes of run time. I can't be sure but it seemed to be the impeller rubbing against the housing. I would not expect a long life from this pump.I would try any other pump before using this pump. Unless you only need to pump some oily water out of a pond and into some drums for disposal. And then junk the pump.

Great pump for the money, works, but...
First, this pump is $40 delivered! Given the weight and resulting shipping costs though every point of distribution, this pump must cost them $5 to build in China. That's a wow considering that this pump works, and it works better than others I have tried at two to three times the price. However, I did receive the wrong one, the one I received had 1" ports, not 1.5" as stated so I had to use a couple of adapters. The advantage of the 1 hp is that it has great suction. I am pulling water from a fifty foot pipe in the lake with maybe a three foot head. Not many pumps in this price range will pull from that distance. Forget stainless steel anything, this is cast iron. My stainless steel irrigation pump cost me $900. This is my second pump of this type and the previous lasted five years in terrible conditions. This unit has a slight leak when pumping which is ok in my application. The pump remains primed which is the key. On the suction side, it must be absolutely air tight and you have to have a foot valve to keep the prime. If it doesn't pump, you have an air leak. Even if air tight, you have to prime the pump to get any air out of the suction line. This involves pour water into the output side until it overflows and then starting the pump. If it pumps great, if not you have air. I open the brass screw slightly and if it bubbles, you have air. After it stops bubbling, tighten the screw and start over. If you have a long draw pipe, you might have to repeat this process many times until all the air is sucked out of the pipe. For those using this to pump water from a rain barrel, you might be better off with a submersible pump.

50% success
Ordered 2 of these for our rain barrels in front and back. We built a little house for them to keep them dry, plenty of ventilation all around. We got high-rated outdoor extension cords and waterproof enclosures for the plugs. We used pvc for the fittings and once tightened down they don't leak. They're both set up identically. One pump works perfectly. We're able to pump water out of 2 connected rain barrels just as if we had the hose hooked up to the faucet. The other one worked once. Then there was some smoke from the top and we noticed that it's also cracked. We verified that water enters it but no water exits. We can hear the motor running but it does not pump. I read some other reviews that said theirs had no hole through which the input water could pass to the output side but that can't be the issue because it did pump one time when we first hooked it up. So back it goes, hope the replacement works. Kudos to Amazon for their customer service and excellent replacement policy, especially when an item is sold by them. I've attached photos of the working pump and the cracked one.

Open and Clean and it Goes!
This ran great for 3 years, then stopped flowing. Removed the three bolts, cleaned out the leaves and trigs and it was back to running great. I use it to maintain the level of water in my swimming pool (now a frog pond) after hard rains.

Use a good pipe thread sealer
For the money its a good pump would recommend. I have it set up in a closed system I first started a lot of small air bubbles they cleared up and it seems to be working great
