Works as Advertised with a wonderful small business backing their Product!
The SkimDoctor 2.0 filter works very well in our pool here in Arizona. Firstly, the small business that operates this company 100% stands behind their product and provides kind, excellent support, so directly contact them if you have any questions/problems. Installation was intuitive, quick and easy (I did not need any directions). People pick on the how the SkimDoctor attaches to the basket, but the design is fine considering that it must generically work with any basket. Weekly, I empty the sock that is full of debris that would otherwise be clogging the main filter. I adjusted the tower to create an optimum flow, and it pulls in all debris - my pool is clean. I read reviews from those that rated this low and think many are unfair. I highly recommend this product and company.

Skeptical at first
I have to be honest and say I was skeptical of this device when I ordered it. It seemed like a good idea in theory, so I took a chance. All the parts are well made. The various plastic bits seemed the quality of the Hayward skimmer baskets that came with the pool. The install required a bit of modding for the Hayward. The black “rods” that fit from the bottom of the basket wouldn’t insert because the basket holes were too small. Nothing a small drill bit can’t fix in abt 10 sec. Frankly I’d rather do that than have the rods be thinner and more prone to breakage. I also had to remove the basket handles, which isn’t a big deal but can be a bit fiddly. Try not to break your basket by going on gorilla with it, haha. After that it went in just like the instructions and YouTube vids. There’s plenty of room for the SkimDr to fit and be hidden by the skimmer cover. After install I ramped up the pump to 100% and adjusted the openings to create the correct amount of “swirl”. It definitely helps to orient the openings to the side vs inline with the pool opening.Having owned it for about a month, and checking/cleaning it once a week, I can say it’s made the process much, much easier. You no longer have to stick your hand inside the mystery pool of dead bugs, (and possibly snakes, mice, and frogs) to pull out the basket. You grab the “tower” looking thing which is above the water.I used to wash and reuse the socks but now I just replace with a new one. You literally just unscrew the tower, slide the sock off, put on a new one, and screw on the tower. It might take a minute. The baskets also remain 100% clean which tells me everything is being sucked in through the tower and into the skimmer sock.I’ve also noticed the small pool pump filter (the one with a removable basket inside designed to catch the big stuff) has remained totally clean as well. That was never the case before. I’d always have to clean leaves and small pieces of gunite (our pool is less than a year old)I normally clean the main filter (the large pressurized unit with multiple filters in it) once a quarter, so we’ll see how much better that looks in a few months. If you maintain your own pool like I do, I’d say this is a must have.

Cleaner pool!!!
I do not write a lot of reviews but I feel compelled to share my thoughts on the skim doctor 2.0. I have been using it for about 5 days and I am amazed at how much cleaner not only the top of my pool water is, but the clarity overall as well. Before installing the skimdoctor 2.0, I would literally watch debris float right by the front of my skimmer just a few inches away and not get sucked in. NOT ANYMORE! Now, I have witnessed that if debris comes within two to three feet, it goes into the skimmer. Debris closer to the skimmer gets sucked right in, while debris farther out slowly gets pulled in. I haven't had to vacuum my pool for 3 days now and before it was an everyday routine to keep the pool clean. Which common sense says, if you keep debris off the top of the water it will not settle to the bottom thus not having to vacuum as often. One thing to remember, you must point the return Jets in a way in which the debris gets circulated close to the skimmer. This is going to take some trial and error but trust me your persistence will pay off. As far as emptying the skimmer basket, I use disposable hair nets, you can buy them relatively cheap for like $0.12 a piece. Using these cheap hair nets, allows me to catch even the smallest debris, even pollen, before it goes into my sand filter. Install the hair net by unscrewing the top of the skin doctor placing the hairnet in the skimmer basket and then placing the top of the skim doctor back onto the skimmer basket. To empty, unscrew the skin doctor take out the old hairnet and replace with a new one. That simple. The skimdoctor 2.0 is adjustable to create more or less suction. If it is closed too much, it will start sucking air so you will need to open it up a little more to allow strong suction but not sucking air. Imagine flushing a toilet with the swirling action, that is what you want with the skimdoctor. Also, depending on your water levels you may have to adjust as those levels rise and fall. It is best to maintain the same water level at all times if possible. Anyway, all this may sound a little difficult, but trust me, if you know anything about your pool you will figure this out relatively quickly. I only gave it 4 stars because number one there are very few products that are perfect, and number two it is a little noisy like the sound of a flushing toilet constantly. But overall, I am very satisfied with this product. It does what it says it does.
