I needed another generator like I needed a hole drilled in my head. Having said that, when I stumbled across this generator at this price I had to jump in. I put it through the usual brake in running at different loads and the little fellow never complained too much. I changed the oil after burning a full tank of fuel and there were no surprises there. The usual particulate that is always found at the first oil change. I am not by any means directly comparing this to the Blue or Red generators. I have given this generator a 5 star rating on price vs performance. It does produce the power as advertised. It is very good on fuel. It is very quiet. It is very light. It also seems to be well made. When running at no load in economy mode the speed does hunt a bit. I don't know that I would run it under it's continuous rating of 800 watts for long periods of time. Just my opinion. It did run real nice at around 500 watts continuous. Bottom line? This generator is a solid performer. Follow maintenance instructions in the manual, especially the oil changes and air filter cleaning. Use fuel stabilizer. Run it under load every couple of months. It should last a long time.

The media could not be loaded.  This thing amazes me, I have an inverter that is supposed to be a 3000 Watt peak but it will not start my AC unit but this small generator with a little help does. After putting the oil in and the gas i primed it then choked it and only took 2 pulls to start this thing is AWESOME !Very Light to carry around it weighs nothing hardly !We are in florida and we have a truck camper that we have gutted and are remodeling so i needed something to run our AC unit and with the ac off I start the generator then i turn the ac FAN ONLY on and give it a second before i turn on the AC itself so the compressor can kick on and WALLA it works great to run the ac and I ran it yesterday for 2 hours then shut it down since i was just testing it.Now as far as the sound, it is super quiet and i will be purchasing another one just for my work truck.UPDATE 8-14-2017:I tried a different 5000 BTU AC and it would not start it, the generator went into overload, that brand was a haier from the big box chain, my brand of air conditioner is the GE version of a 5000BTU window unit model number GE AEY05LV found on amazon here http://amzn.to/2wKtDLoI did buy a bigger generator only because i need to run the ac and microwave or other appliances but will keep this as a back up it runs great and starts on the 1st or second pull every time.

Arrived on time by ontrak delivery service... Read the manual seems very simply. Runs alot quieter than I thought it would, only problem is it smokes out of the exhaust really bad when I put it on economy mode ? I'd buy this again it's a great little generator just can't use economy mode... I'm only running a 29" Flatt screen t.v and a PlayStation 4 nothing else...Part 2: after having this generator for two month it stop running after one hour? I called sportsman customer service and was told it needs to be serviced. If you buy this generator first use only synthetic 10/30 oil, the manual says 10 oz of oil, after two month I found 8 1/2 works fine stops the generator from smoking, service the generator every 10 hour and check the spark plugs, change the spark plug at 50 hours run time, only use high octane gas 91 or higher if you can find it, the generator is very quiet that's nice when you're camping near people. On half load I've gotten 8 hours on a tank of gas.

Takes a few hours to burn-in the engine, afterwords no smoke or smell. Great efficiency, and watt output, no smoke, and less noise compared to 2 stroke engine of the same watt output. This engine is from an established Chinese scooter manufacturer, so you know its going to last longer. Sportsman did a great job with choosing the right components to make the maximum watt output from a small package, easily available parts, as well as good instructions, and knowledgeable customer support. I was able to achieve very close to rated 800 Watts constant output at full power, but don't expect 1000W for more that a couple of seconds (useful if your refrigerator or ac has a higher than 800 watt peak necessary for starting, with a lower running watts). The safety feature shuts off the engine automatically when over-stressed to extend the life of the engine. If you want to have a quieter operation, then use less than 450Watt to prevent the engine from revving up. Don't expect it to be whisper quiet, it is an engine after all, but its slightly quieter than a Honda lawnmower (I don't know if that is helpful).

The media could not be loaded.  Bought this 15 months ago, ran well at first with the exhaust smoking intermittently as others have stated. I used this approximately 6 times for camping trips to top off RV batteries dry camping in the desert. It had no more than 8 hours on it when it broke. Exhaust valve galled in the guide or bent the valve, its stuck open and there is no more compression anymore. I figured I would contact the company and see about honoring the warranty being as its 1 month out of warranty and looks new, yeah right. After a month of communication with their "technician" indirectly through their customer service agent (who was as helpful as she could be) he still couldn't understand the problem and would send me tutorials for repairs that had nothing to do with the issue. Ultimately I asked for a parts list so I could just order the parts and try to fix it on my own. No parts are available. Not one. Stay away unless you have uncanny luck with relabeled Chinese junk. Used full synthetic Rotella oil and always ran non ethanol fuel.

Great generator if you only need 275 watts or less. Always starts, hardly uses any fuel at all. This is NOT an 800 running watts / 1000 surge watts generator as advertised. Overloads and shuts down at 280 watts. Wish I had tried this generator out earlier, too late for return now according to Amazon. You've been warned.
