DoveRefillable Deodorant Starter Kit Deodorant For Women Cucumber & Green Tea 0% Aluminum 1.13 oz

This was the dove refillable deodorant in the “refillable stainless steel case“. It broke apart during first use. I had thrown away the packaging so I can’t return the item. This sounded like a great concept, but the execution was poor. The whole deodorant stick just came apart when I used it the first time.

I’ve been using this product for a year or two. At first, I was highly frustrated with the design since the deodorant stick broke off the base.Lightbulb moment!! Turn the product 90° so that when you are swiping up and down on your armpits, the stick is oriented up and down (like a capital letter I) rather than side to side (like a hyphen -). It’s going to be more sturdy and adorable in this orientation. Also, when it is new, I am more careful when I apply it and if it seems like it’s going to be a little hard to swipe on, a single drop of water on my skin makes it huge difference in how easily it applies.I love that this is aluminum free. I feel better about using it over the long term than a regular anti-perspirant/deodorant. Overall, I’ve been very pleased with this, and I like that it creates less plastic waste!

I purchased the starter kit and two refills thinking this would be a great way to reduce my use of plastics. Unfortunately, upon opening the deodorant pod, I knew this would be a poor experience. So I kept my empty deodorant that I had just finished. So I gingerly began using the starter pack. Even though I was gently applying the deodorant, it broke off after exactly 7 days. So I pulled out the saved deodorant, twisted the base up as far as I could so I could remove it, and cleaned it out. I then took the broken deodorant and smashed it onto the base from my old deodorant stick. It was a mess! Not only because I got deodorant all over my hands, but because the refillable deodorant is slightly longer than the disposable one. So some of it was shaved off in the process. However, I was able to make this work, and the deodorant was easy to wash off my hands. Dove really should come up with a better refillable version of this. It’s a great idea, but poor execution. Perhaps cardboard or another eco-friendly packaging rather than refillable. I don’t know, but this isn’t the the way to go. I don’t recommend unless you want to purchase the refills to insert into your current deodorant case. It would cut down on waste, but be ready to get a bit messy. The deodorant falls off.

In theory this looks like a good product. Less waste of plastic and small size for travel. Well the deodorant area broke off the base the second time I used it. After that the only way to use the deodorant was to hold a greasy mess with my hands to apply, so it just went in the trash. This does not help the environment or my wallet! I e-mailed Dove/Unilever and they said they would send me a replacement coupon. That was back in November, and here we are in January and I still have not gotten anything from them. This makes we want to to using other Unilever products as well!

This is my absolute favorite deodorant I have ever used! I am in my later 40’s so I’ve used deodorant for many years. I tried many deodorants without aluminum but they never really kept the stench away! This one works and smells great! I have very sensitive skin and I don’t break out in a rash or itch when using it. 🙂 It’s is very different to use, as it is one tall stick, as opposed to you rolling up just enough to put on. I had to learn to put it on gently so it doesn’t break, after all if I put the stick all the way up on a traditional deodorant it would also break off if you aren’t gentle. 😉. I also love the fact that I saving the planet by reducing the use of plastic. 😁

I like the fact that it uses less plastic so I'll put up with a few problems, which I'll list below.Pro* I like the fact that it's reusable and therefore I use less plastic.* I've tried all kinds of natural deodorants (Tom's, Lume, crystals) and I usually end up having some weird adverse reaction to them after about a week and end up smelling worse than if I don't use anything at all. That didn't happen here so I'm happy.Con* As others have said, the deodorant became separated from the base so I've had to put the block in my hand to use. It lasted maybe 3 weeks before that happened.Somewhere In Between Pro & Con* The lack of antiperspirant means I'm sweaty, but I don't smell. That's the compromise of no aluminum so while not ideal, I can deal. I suspect this will be less of a problem in cooler months.I would recommend this to people with the cautions above. I'll stick with it till something better comes along but I sure hope they fix the issue with the stick becoming detached from the base.

I really want to love this product. And I did the first time I used it. I felt like it did a great job of going on smooth and keeping the odors down (especially after doing yard work in the 100 degree heat for most of the day)!However, the second time I used it- the stick part that you use just snapped off. There is no way to reattach it so now I just have this mess of deodorant that I have to rub all over my arm pits in the morning and then wash my hands cause they are covered in deodorant cause the bar snapped off. It's a total mess.I thought maybe I got a faulty bar so I tried one of the replacement bars I bought and had the same problem! So it's a product flaw.I don't want to deal with the mess of it at 6am when I'm trying to get ready for the day. But I also dont want to throw it out cause it feels like a waste of a perfectly good product.
