Soak the lid in HOT water before you put it on a bucket!
I am using the lid for it's intended purpose, to store my pellets for the Traeger. Like many people (based on existing reviews), I attempted to put the lid on a 5 gallon bucket without success since there was no instructions. However, there are recommendations for how to install this directly from Traeger which is to soak the bucket lid in hot water for 15 minutes. Once you have done this, dry the lid quickly and attach to your planned 5 gallon bucket. You'll then have a tight fit. If you ever change buckets, repeat the process so that the seal is seated properly. These missing instructions are the cause for the low reviews and the high discrepancy of reviews. For that I've knocked a start off due to the ease of installation since if it was mentioned in the description and/or provided on the packaging there would not have been a fight to install this simple yet useful accessory. As for the operation of the bucket lid, it works absolutely great and allows for pouring directly from the bucket while keeping the pellets dry and increases the longevity all while filtering out a lot of the dust from the bottom of the bag. I would certainly purchase this again (after understanding the installation process).

Required a little work but satisfied
I took a lid package to local HD and tried the fit on a couple of stock 5 gal buckets. Wasn't a perfect fit but it was close so I purchased 3. I soaked each Traeger lid in hot tap water for 5 - 10 minutes and managed to snap a lid on each bucket. I also soaked the bottom of each bucket in hot tap water for 5 - 10 mins and was able to seat the dust strainer flush with the bottom of each bucket. If you look close along the bottom of each bucket you can see the ridge created when I seated the dust strainer.I placed buckets in the garage and let lids remain on overnight. Each now has a very snug fitting Traeger lid and a dust strainer properly seated on the bottom of each 5 gal pellet bucket. Took a little work but very happy with the results! Much cheaper than the 20 lb Traeger tin bucket which never seems to be in stock.

It fits!
Before purchasing the lid and filter, I saw several ratings saying it didn't fit a typical 5 gallon bucket or the metal Traeger bucket it was made for. I ordered both the bucket and the lid & filter. The original response after the neither product would be available to ship for 4-5 weeks.A couple days later I received an update telling me both would ship much sooner. I received the bucket in a couple days and the lid & filter a few days after that. Both fit the Traeger bucket fine. The filter doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the bucket, but that is because there is a ridge built into the bucket to prevent that. I'm assuming it's to allow plenty of space at the bottom of the bucket for the saw dust that builds up. I'm guessing some reviewers did see that, and gave a negative review around the fit.Time will tell how functional this set is, and if I have any problems, I've be the first to let you know.

very hard to install, but not impossible
The lid is very hard to install and at first it seems that it will never fit any 5 gallon bucket. My husband used a heat gun to warm it up and then we were able to get the lid on. I do wish that the filter would sit a little lower in the bucket. The lid is so tight it is not going anywhere, but then again you want a very tight fitting when you are pouring pellets from the bucket to the grill.

Some minor improvements would make it perfect
Like others, I initially tried to put mine on a lowes bucket but was having trouble with it being too tight. Happened to find some 5 gallon buckets at walmart for 3 bucks and they fit perfect! Super easy to put on and take off and have used the spout to pour pellets into my traeger without being worried it was going to come off. Other than that, i get annoyed with the filter sitting flush in the bucket; any minor adjustments ends up causing it to flip and cause pellets to fall into all of the dust. Aside from those quirks, I like it and its much more convenient than having to unscrew the lid everytime i need to load up the hopper.

Traeger Bucket lid - great product
This is a great product. Like some of the reviewers have mentioned, the lid does not easily snap on. Then again if it snapped on easily, when you attempted to pour the wood pellets the 20lbs of pellets hitting the lids would force the lid off and all pour out onto the ground. To install this item is similar to mounting a bicycle tire onto a bicycle rim. You need to use/apply a lever to assist. In the case of a bicycle tire using a tire lever or a screw driver. In the case of the Traeger lid I used a screw driver to pry the top over the rim. In regards to the bottom screen not fitting flat into the bucket, true again. If it did fit flat on the bottom the pellets would be right next to the dust that you are trying to separate it from. Using careful force evenly moving around the screen I was able to get it within 3 inches of the bottom then easily fill the bucket with a 20lb bag of pellets. It does bulge the bottom of the container some, but it hasn’t affected the bucket. I used a Home Depot Food Grade bucket.

useful to keep your pellets dry and safe
I read a lot of reviews saying that people had trouble putting this lid on a bucket. I went to Lowes and bought the least expensive blue bucket with the Lowes logo on it- i think it cost me $3.25 - and i brought it home - I did have to force the dust screen thing into to bottom with quite a bit of force - but it did slide all the way in - then i put my pellets in it - and the i was ready to fight the lid, so i put the bucket on the ground on my concrete driveway and was ready to use all my might to snap the lid on - but it snapped on with out much effort - so I guess i got a good lid? or i found the "right" bucket? Anyway seems to work fine for me

Does the job
The filter and lid fit the Traeger bucket but the lid doesn't fasten quite as securely as I would think it should. It seems that giving it a good press before storage will likely seal well enough until the next usage. It seems like a decent investment if you only grill intermittently and want to keep the pellets from absorbing moisture from the air.
