needs to be cheaper
Given that there's really no competition, it's easy to see why the simple materials are priced the way they are. It really should be MUCH cheaper than this. That being said, it is an excellent addition if you plan to soak in your American Standard jet tub for longer than the ~30min it takes to lose all that water temperature. If you only ever soak for less than 30min, this won't make much difference, but if you want to soak for a longer period of time, this is a night/day difference in keeping the water up to a cozy temp. Yes, the price hurts, but if you're sore and want to soak the evening away, this is worth it.

if your are not using it on a American Standard tub you're in for a hard install.
the fittings seem to be this weird 2 1/4 inch I went to every big box and mom and pop plumbing and not once had it. I ever tried at a pool and sauna supply place with no luck. I ended up cutting the plastic and the metal flange off and using two 2-inch no hub couplings. Once installed ran into the second problem, the switch. the flow switch was defective and did not turn the heating element on. Can't return it, already cut off the ends :-), I ended up bypassing the flow switch and installed an on/off switch, next to the on/off switch to the pump so I just have to turn them on at the same time and turn them off at the same time. Heating, I haven't fully explored the heating of it. I have only tested it one as we are still in the middle of building a bathhouse. the water was 80 degrees when I started and 90 degrees after about 2 hours of running. it seems to hold at 90 degrees. this is a 200-gallon system. however, I will not fully be able to test the heater out until after the bathhouse is compleate.

Works and so easy to install.
Seems like it should be cheaper. American Standard whirlpool I purchased had planned for this product. It took all of 30 seconds to install. I installed it and tested the tub before moving it to it's final location. I verified that the indicator came on whenever there was flow. I had my electrician install a blind gfci (no socket on gfci) that was then wired to an outlet. You can hang out a very long time in the tub. Heater works great to maintain temperature. I'll have to get more scientific and record a temperature profile.

Worth every penny
I recently had an American Standard Everclean whirlpool tub put in as part of a bathroom remodel. I initially didn't get this heater because I figured I wouldn't need it, but at the last minute I found it on Amazon for way cheaper than local places were selling it and I figured why not. So glad I did, because it means the difference between your tub water going cold within 10 minutes and the tub water actually getting warmer over the same period. When I was a kid I used to just leave the hot water trickling in to keep the water at a nice temperature. With this heater you don't need to do it.Make sure you have a separate circuit for the heater as it draws ~1500 watts. It uses a vacuum switch so it turns itself on automatically when you turn on the whirlpool (there's no "Switch" to turn it on or off).

Works better than I thought it would!
Easy to install and actually raises the temperature of the water a few degrees after a few minutes of running but then just kept it there at a perfect temperature. Works as advertised!
