Use some common sense and it will work as advertised
Most of the reviews about the device catching fire can be narrowed down to improper use. The heater needs to be FULLY submerged to operate. This includes the yellow cap and part of the cable (Plug stays high and dry). Will heat a 5 gallon bucket really quickly and can heat a hot tub or a kiddy pool with some time. Will not heat a pool. The thermometer is accurate, but the water can heat unevenly in a hot tub compared to a bucket so to get accurate readings, measure from many areas or mix up the hot tub. Worked fine with no over-heating from my extension cable rated for 1625W 125V 13Amp, but would still recommend connecting to a fused outlet. Do not leave unattended.

100% Value for your money
100% value for your money. We ordered this last minute due to not having access to showers where we went camping. The quality is durable and travel friendly in size. You can instantly see the power of it heating up the water through the holes. We filled up a 5 gallon bucket to 120 degrees in 30 minutes total game changer for our weekend.

Was Mildy Electrocuted, edit* twice now!
*edit from previous review. Company was excellent and reached out to me to make things better. They shipped me a brand new unit for free and I said I would honestly review them better if all was well. Sorry folks, used in the hot tub several times with no issue but left it in there overnight last week and reached in to grab my filter to change it and got a nice jolt of 120v up my arm. The new one, like the other one, apparently cannot be used at high temp (its own setting) without shorting out or losing it's seal, not sure which one but it is an open current right in the water. I had a temp monitor in there to track the temp and it reached close to 130 degrees overnight in a 5 person inflatable tub. I know, I should not have left it on overnight but if you leave your pool accessories on overnight you don't usually worry about them electrocuting you the next day when you take a dip.I do not say this lightly, do not use this with humans or animals in or in contact with the water, you can be electrocuted. May not kill you but I am not sure who wants to find out. I certainly would not want to be chest deep in the water and have it zap me.Original review below------I have been using this device for a couple weeks to enhance the temp of an outdoor inflatable hot tub. I would run this for many hours at a time. The other day when I was closing up the tub, I plugged the unit in and I was replacing the cover when I touched the water and felt a jolt. I was barefoot at the time but there should not be an open current from the unit in the tub. It was not a deadly jolt so I wanted to ensure this was what was doing it and I unplugged the unit and touched the water, no issue. I carefully plugged the unit back in and touched the water again, no doubt, there was current running though it. Not enough to kill me but not gonna experiment and find out. It is being returned and I will not get the same brand again. For anyone reading this that might use this for a tub or kiddie pool, do NOT take the chance of having your kids, pets, or livestock near the water when this is plugged in. Mine might be a single bad unit but I doubt anyone reading this wants to find out there hard way that I am not alone.

It works for our purpose.
I was going to give 3 stars, just because it doesn't warm water QUICKLY. Can't blame item for my impatience. It does take a while, though, and I was trying to heat way more than a 5-gallon tub. Okay, so we lost heat and hot water, no fault of our own. It sucks to not bathe, so this was one way we could wash. First, it's about 9" long, and has a fairly short cord, not meant to be on an extension cord. Well, my tub is more farther away from the outlet than the cord, so had to run it on a heavy-duty appliance cord, checking every now and then that it didn't overheat. (Got warm, but not warm enough to cause alarm or disconnect.) I was sure it was going to blow the circuit in this old apartment bldg, but it didn't, though we couldn't run anything at all with this thing running. Takes about an hr to warm to about 75 degrees, from 41 degrees. (Yes, our water is THAT cold here in NE at the moment.) It serves its purpose, but consider all of those things (safety with extension cord, amt of water you intend to heat, temp of water in which you place this heater, etc), and it's actually a pretty good heater for what we needed right now. I'd definitely buy again if I had to. Today's supposed to be the big day that we get our heat back on, so won't need it until I have the pond in greenhouse next Winter.

Works great
Mine works way better then I thought it would. Just have the hole thing under water before u plug it in. All the way in the water, the top, bottom all of it. Lol people don't get that so. 🤣

Critical safety warnings
BE CAREFUL!!! I caught my bathroom rug ON FIRE because I forgot to unplug the element, took it out of the water and laid it down. NEVER plug it in before it's submerged in water...and ALWAYS UNPLUG it before you remove it from water!! And it's very hot after you unplug & remove it so hold it only by the base never the silver part after using it. Also make sure your children understand that they cannot put anything else electric into water!!! This element does not have a safety shut off after a certain temperature so be sure to program reminders for yourself about when to unplug it. There is no on or off switch. It works great heating water. Read the warning about what type of containers you can use this in and always make sure it is fully submerged before plugging it in.

Great way to have a hot shower while out camping!
I have been using this for a few weeks now. It uses alot of electricity, but it allows us to heat water to have a hot shower. I do wish there was some sort of thermostat on it, but it is cheap enough, we just unplug it when the water gets hot enough. It heats the water quickly. We heat about 10 gallons, and it takes about 20-30 mins.
