A good practical book to help untangle DCD/Dyspraxia especially in the school environment
This is a great book written by a senior psychologist. It is geared towards teachers. I am a teacher but I have a son with DCD and it is because of him that I purchased it. He has a lot of trouble at school and though I bought it for myself I'm thinking of getting a copy for the school. Not all children with DCD are the same. They are a heterogeneous group as are all children with disabilities and Kate Ripley acknowledges that very much in this book.Sometimes schools are quick to decide what a child with a disability is like based simply on their past experience with children with particular disabilities. It is not a 'one cap fits all' scenario. Kate Ripley gives some characteristics of children with DCD/Dyspraxia at the beginning of this book. Then the book addresses areas such as literacy, numeracy and social and emotional area and goes into detail as to how and why children with this disability are effected in each area. She then suggests several useful ways of helping to overcome these difficulties.I think it is a good book for anyone with a child with DCD/Dyspraxia not just teachers. It is simple and easy to read and the suggestions in it are very practical and useful.
