Excellent waffles, care with cleaning needed, bread engineering enables good toasties too
Excellent waffle maker, with a little bread-engineering it’s also a very good toasted sandwich maker but that takes some effort.Waffles: Does leak a little if you overfill but not a problem. One thing to watch out for: the silver coating on body scratches instantly if you try and remove any spillage with metal knife or spatula (ie it looks like it’s metal coating but just paint) so it’s non-stick tools for all of it not just the irons.Tips from other reviews and first use:Allowed it to pre-heat for half an hour on high heat. You MUST give the waffle plates a REALLY good clean in lots of hot soapy water then rinsing and drying. Initial heating produced a foul smell but after cleaning not an issue so this step is vital!Lots of negative reviews here about it not working with bread for toasters - if you put three slices across on each layer it works fine but won’t work with just two. Helps to patch the joins with strips from a seventh slice of bread - so it does require a little work but it does then make great toasties.

The plates come out very easy, released with a press button at the side
I have had the Cuisinart 2-in-1 Sandwich and Waffle Maker for just over a week now. So this is my initial view on the product. It appears to be well made from metal. It’s strong and does not flex when pressed, as have some sandwich makes I have used in the past. The plates come out very easy, released with a press button at the side. Each plate is marked with top and bottom, so you can’t get them in the wrong position. These are by far the easiest I have every used as far as taking them out and butting them back in again. The heating control knob as not sensitive as someone else pointed out. What that really means is it does not click into a set position. It just gently turns 270 degrees, with off at the top, low at 2 o’clock, medium at 6 and high at 9 o’clock. The handles are well made and of metal. The clip that holds the handles is made of plastic. Some people have mentioned they think the plastic clip could break off when closing the lid. I disagree. You use the handles to push down the top and bottom plates, when the handles join, then just push over the clip. There should be absolutely no reason why any force is exerted on the clip itself. The plates look well-made and have a good coating of non-stick on the front. The rear is bear metal. No different to any other sandwich make I have ever seen.As far as the physical features of the sandwich maker the only thing that could do with a little change is the power lead, and extra 30cms would have been great, but as it is its still not too bad.As far as actually making toasted sandwiches it’s very simple. So far I have not had a single sandwich that has stuck, not even a little bit. Also not had any that have leaked. The seal has been tight all the way round. You can just lift the sandwich out with your fingers if you are careful, that easy. The sandwich maker does not cut the two triangles in half completely. The middle bit is just compressed bread that has been baked. When you take the sandwich out you still need to run a knife between the two triangles to cut it or bend it sufficiently for the sandwich to snap in half.I have not tried omelets, fritters, samosas, and other things yet, that fun is still to come. Nor have I tried the waffle maker function yet. Maybe this weekend. If I find anything wrong with the sandwich maker over the coming weeks, months I will update this post. If I don’t then it’s probably a great little item. So at this time I am giving it 5 stars. I really can’t see anything wrong with it. After reading the reviews its better than I was expecting.

Work so much better than I anticipated
I bought this for waffles, but I now find myself waffling pieces of sliced bread, toasting asparagus and tenderstem broccoli in it, as well as making waffles and toasted sandwich les. It’s very non-stick, though sometimes I do add a little oil or butter. I don’t put the plates in the dishwasher as I think in a short time the non-stick element will fade but they are very easy to wash by hand. I love the sturdiness of this piece of equipment and that you can stand it on its side on the shelf is a real space-saver. It also means that it’s easy to pull out and use whereas if it’s lying flat in the cupboard you will forget about it. I researched lots of waffle makers and I’m so glad that I spent the extra money for this because it is so versatile. (And I was able to get rid of a sandwich maker that I had.) It’s also beautifully designed so you feel good when you’re using it which means that you’re more likely to use it more often.

Very pleased with performance
My family is so delighted with this waffle maker. I haven't tried the sandwich maker bit yet, but I decided to get the 2-in-1 version as it seemed good value over the waffle maker alone, and if the waffle making plates are anything to go by, I am sure that it makes great toasties too.So far, I have made only the "chocolate brownie waffle" recipe (twice, by popular demand) - it is so tasty and chocolatey. The machine is easy to use, just follow the instructions about the indicator lights. Do not over fill with waffle batter, or it will overflow. The waffles were done in 6 to 7 minutes and were evenly cooked. I washed the plates in soapy water before hand but forgot to oil them prior to adding the batter. I was very concerned that I was going to have a terrible stuck up mess, but they popped out a dream! This is much much better than the cheap under-powered waffle maker I bought a year ago, which is now making its way to a jumble sale.

Falscher Stecker
Das Gerät hat einen amerikanischen Stecker (nicht für europäischen Raum vorgesehen) - ansonsten macht es einen robusten Anschein, konnte ich allerdings nicht versuchen.
