Brilliant
This is is a pudding basin with a tight lid that you put in a pan to steam and you do need a pan to fit, it fits comfortably into both my soup pans so I had no problem there. It is easy to use, the lid fits tightly and is easy to clean. I used it to make a steak and Kidney pudding and it worked perfectly. The size is perfect to use to feed a family. I heartily recommend this, it is just a really simple but brilliant piece of kitchen equipment.

God send
Check out the nic of this steak and kidney pudding! I'm so pleased with this, it's easy to use and easy to clean. I put it in my large casserole pot as others pointed out it needs to go in a deep 28cm pan and it worked beautifully. Well worth it and it will get lots of use.

It needs to go in a 28cm pan with a lid....
I bought this because I was tired of making puddings and having to tie the bowl with greaseproof paper/foil and string. This bowl makes things much easier, as all I need to do now is put the filling into the lightly greased bowl, put it in a pan of water with a lid and let it cook away on the hob. The plus points are that the bowl is sturdy and well made, the lid fits snugly and puddings made in it don't go soggy. It is also easy to clean. The big drawback, as others have pointed out, is the design of the handles. They are fixed in place, which increases the width of the bowl and means that it needs to go in a very large pan. I am lucky to have a 28cm casserole pan with a lid, which can be used on the hob. Even then, the bowl is a tight fit! I bought another one of these bowls for my son and his biggest pan is only 24cm, so he will need to buy a bigger one just to be able to use this, which seems a bit silly. I do think the product description should make the dimensions very clear, and state how big a pan is needed for cooking. Summing up - I have no hesitation in recommending the bowl... provided your pan is large enough to accommodate it!

brilliant, I recommend this.
Absolutely brilliant, does away with the need for greaseproof paper and fiddly string, however for a Christmas pud I would still use the greaseproof as a liner for ease of getting the pud out as that did need it. For a steak and kidney pudding no need, just grease the tin even though it's a good non stick tin. The pud came out like a dream. However we did need to hammer the handles down on the side to fit it in a bigger pot.

No really fit for purpose unless you have a huge pan - over 25cm wide.
I had read other review of this steamer saying that it was very wide, so I measured my largest pan - 24cm wide - saw that this was 23cm wide - guess what it wouldn't fit in unless really pressed down. I was worried that if I used it it could expand and distort either the basin or my pan.As I have an induction hob, purchasing an even wider pan than the one I have would cost me over £175 so I am hoping I can return this as it really isn't fit for my purpose. Such a pity that they have put such large handles on this basin which must make it unusable for very many people.Update: I bought two of the smaller version of this basin which don't seem to be on Amazon any longer. They lasted 2 years - the insides have rusted - used very little and washed by hand so not fault of a dishwasher. Conclusion - very poor product made of inferior materials - does not last.

If you have a massive saucepan...
...then this will be fine for you.Even my largest pressure cooker and stock pot were not wide enough to be able to take the steamer. The metal lifting handles are a great idea but add far too much extra width to the steamer. It would have been so much better if they swung down and out of the way...ill thought out but sturdy design and great nonstick interior though.I bought this to do my Christmas pud in, got it all made and poured in and then found it didn't fit any pan I had.I went into town and paid £20 for a wide enough stock pan and lid to take the steamer only to find that it was too tall to fit into the Aga simmering oven where I intended to steam it.Aaaargh!!!!I ended up putting it in a casserole dish half filled with water and creating a foil "tent" over the top.I've thrown the box out so can't return it but am going to see if I can hack off the handles to make it more practical!

Should come with a warning. Hehehe
You can make a lovely Christmas pudding in here! This does scratch when a knife is used to prize out a sponge cake that the husband decided to cook in my wonderful new pudding bowl instead of a cake tin... So product should come with a warning...keep away from husband (if he can't bake like mine)

Highly recommended
This is an excellent product. I used to make a very difficult Italian pudding and, thanks to this, the pudding turn out exactly as it should have. It is also quite adaptable, and can be put in the oven to dry the pudding for a few minutes.
