Great whistle
Great dog whistlePurchased this whistle as our 6 month old cocapoo has taken to rubbing his head and eating various types of poo, and after some research a whistle seems to be the way to go to move him away from temptation as quickly as possible. We'll I, m on day 2 of training and things are going well.Never took any notice at first but after associating the whistle with his favourite treat we are making good progress. After about 40 small chicken treats he bounds over after he hears 3 toots of the whistle. Still some way to go but research suggests it will take a month or so to become instinctive to return. Some key pointsQuality: very well made, quite heavy which I like as it feels nice in the hand.Sound: provides a range of frequencies from virtually inaudible to quite loud, I have set it to a low whistle so I can hear the sound when calling.A small screw is provided to lock to the desired frequency, ensure you tighten this, as it is lickly to loosen and fall out.Value for money: slightly on the pricey side but I'm hoping it will last for some time due to build quality.

Good quality
Works well - learn how to train with it and it works but does take time

Excellent Product
I purchased the whistle about 5 weeks ago to try and train my newly aquired 7 yr old, set in his ways, rather unruly terrier to come when called . I have the whistle on its loudest,( but still quiet,) audible, setting. The range is through several settings from inaudible to quite audible. The loudest carries the furthest according to the instructions, and since my dog ranges about some local woodland undergrowth looking for squirrels and rabbits to chase and could be a few hundred yards from me I chose the loudest setting. He is now coming when I whistle him, but at first I had to call him as well. I had to let him know that he would get a reward when he came so I made "livercake" which dogs love and he gets a piece when he responds. You have to train him to know what the whistle means. He has now got to the stage that when he hears the whistle, (I use one long blow), he will come to me. I think this whistle is superb especially as you can select "silent" modes if required. It is also well made and has a cover to protect the "working end" fron dust etc. I recommend this well made versatile product.

A well-engineered and sturdy tool
The adjustment mechanism is very effective, allowing precise and secure selection of a range of pitches. The tiny screw is quite fiddly to rotate (you would ideally need the micro-screwdrivers that are used to tighten the screws on spectacles). But you might not have to adjust the screw more than once, because I think it is possible to tighten it so that is firm enough to hold a chosen frequency in place, but not so firm that you can't twist the barrel to a different frequency without unscrewing. I don't think you could make a lightening-fast series of frequency changes, though, to issue a rapid sequence of commands. Not without a fair amount of practice anyway. I suspect I will use it at one frequency only when out and about, and concentrate on the recall command. Perhaps I will use other frequencies at home to teach some other commands. Just for fun.The mechanism looks solid enough that the whistle will not fall apart like cheaper ones. And in any case the cap should prevent bits dropping off and getting lost even if they do get loose. The cap is pretty tight by the way. Give it a good tug (not a twist) to open. Perhaps it will ease with use. When I blew it for the first time this morning, my dog's head tilted so rapidly and so far that I imagine he has a crick in his neck now.

Rubbish!
This item is not made with quality at all!!At a price of nearly £16 one would expect sheer quality ! I'm affraid not !! The whistle fell apart on the first ever walk and I lost the bottom section in the mud never to be found again! It's utter rubbish! Don't waste your money! In the end I spent £5.99 and bought a lesser whistle ! 2 months in still goin strong! I'm always a believer in pay for what u get and in most cases it's true sadly not this one! I can safely say the acme silent dog whistle just is t up to life in the great outdoors.

I was beyond delighted by the results
Worked wonders for my neighbourhood dogs. They were driving everyone insane with their constant barking, especially in the late evenings, and the owners were ignoring them. So I turned to this as a last desperate resort, not really expecting any miracles.I was beyond delighted by the results!Everytime they start barking I stand by the window and gave it a few blasts. it took a few weeks but the dogs learnt and they stop almost instantly when they hear it. They key is consistancy, you must use it every time you hear the barking and cover all the required frequencies for the different sized dogs. The higher frequences are truly silent and work brilliantly for the small dogs, the larger dogs tended to need the lower frequencies, which are audiable.Great range, easy to adjust, very effective. My one complaint is that the whistle cover tends to get stuck and needs some force to remove sometimes. Not really a major problem and it doesn't hinder the efficiency of the product, but it can be a slight annoyance.
