A Little South Of Sanity explicit_lyrics

There are not many truly great live rock albums and this one just fails to make the cut, but it's very, very good. It's the 'smiths, so it can't be bad, after all! Like another reviewer said, the band seem to take a while to play themselves in and the Demon of Screamin' similarly needs a couple of songs to really get going, but by the time we get to Hole In My Soul and Monkey On My Back we are truly flying and the version of Livin' On The Edge is truly sublime. You know things are right when the band seem to be enjoying themselves as much as the audience and that sounds like the case here. I can't see any indication on the sleeve where the shows were recorded, nor whether the any of the set was sequentially recorded at one gig, but the record does sound like a show developing and expanding as we go along. If this was an artifice of presentation, then it's well done. On first listen I thought the sound presentation was flat, with nothing distinct but the drums on the first few tracks, but it gets better, fuller and rounded. Maybe they sorted the sound during the gig? I don't know. For me the 'smiths best live album and a testimony to how some old guys can still keep rockin' (but then I love the slow numbers and ballads too) - I've yet to get the Donington DVD & CDs so don't know how that show compares, but I can't really see any reason not to give this 5 stars.

Brilliant double live cd that rocks from start to finish! Great set list and superb production. Aerosmith have at last made a live album that can be called a classic! Highly recommended to all rock fans!

My husband loves this band. Purchased this one morning came within days we,ve played it several times in the car. Great album to drive too.
