Does what you see on TV
First saw this on Cake Boss and as an avid baker of artisan cakes myself i have been waiting for an opportunity to try it. that chance came when my sister hit the big 3-0. she loves mushrooms, i mean loves. so for her birthday i decorated a forest scene complete with edible fondant mushrooms and bugs. i wanted to add a little pond in the middle and so purchased a bag of this to try.the instructions for use are more of a guide, depending on individual microwave power/brand you just need to keep checking and stirring until you get the pouring consistency you require. i used some blue food colouring to get a water effect and it honestly came out very well. you get a very small window for application before it starts to thicken so you need to be ready to use before you start melting. it doesnt smell or taste of anything and i wouldnt try biting into it once it is set but you can get some fantastic water effects using this.top tip - use a disposable bowl and spoon as this is a nightmare to clean afterward!

Amazing stuff! You gotta try it!
This stuff is so much fun! My first attempt at making a cake topper and I’m in love!I will try using it over ice to see the effects that makeVery easy to use.I followed instructions on the back of the pack. Heated in microwave for 30 secs at a time. It’s obvs gets very hot so be careful! Then poured over a silicone mat and almost immediately it’s started cooling down. You don’t have as much time as I expected at all! I then hung the mat over a vase and secured with pegs and left the isomalt to dry for 10 mins.Very carefully pulled the mat inwards to release the hold and this was the result!I’m amazed! So easy! Will definitely use again!

Purple is brown
Wanted isomalt for melting and pouring into moulds, one off project so didnt have to be perfect, just quick and easy if poss. Pics show test pours so ignore bubbles, im hoping I can work out how to reduce those.125g of this costs almost as much as 1Kg of raw isomalt. I've added a pic of the bag and contents as it's so hard to know what 125g actually looks like, I was surprised at how much was in there for 125g, but once melted it was a disappointingly small amount.Being new to all this, I originally I bought untempered isomalt by mistake, however with using both the same way, I can't see any difference between them to be honest (I haven't tempered the raw stuff, no time for all that nonsense!). This tempered stuff did melt nicely and looked to have fewer bubbles, however the surface finish on the cast crystals looks the same as the untempered stuff, both are bubbly (like I say though, I'm new to this) and both have the same stickiness levels after half an hour. What I will say though, is the purple is extremely manky! More brown than purple (see pic, one on the left), perhaps burgundy at a push? I wondered if a nice purple just wasn't possible with isomalt, so I used regular (water based!) food colouring in the raw isomalt and got a MUCH nicer purple (the one on the right in the photo), so I would say, if you can afford this tempered isomalt, choose this in clear and colour it yourself, or if you're on a budget you can use the raw stuff with regular food colouring, but defo use an edible gloss spray (£7ish on Amazon) to stop it going sticky too fast.I tried demoulding the nice purple coloured raw isomalt too soon and it stretched, the stretched out part is lovely and smooth, so I'd expect that would be fine for the poured/stretched drip bowls if that's what you're making and you don't need perfection. Again though, use edible gloss spray to stop it going sticky quickly and I make no guarantees, I just wish someone else (ideally more of an expert) did these things and reported back here as all this experimenting has cost me a small fortune!Edited to add, the cast crystal I did in this tempered isomalt went sticky and gooey after an hour or so, the other one didn't, not sure what to make of thar but I won't be wasting any more money on this rubbish! Raw isomalt and gloss spray for the win, for me anyway!
