It's synthetic Ruby, as promised. You can tell this because it is basically transparent with as-made finish. I use it to make watch jewels. Real raw rubies have inclusions and fractures and are quite weak and need treating before they can be made into jewels. This stuff makes wonderful jewels as-is. Dark red, fluoresces with black light, even color. The picture they gave was the exact item being sold. You work it with diamond. I knocked off the sharp edge so others can handle it without getting cut, it is very sharp!

I have to give it five stars because it is exactly as described.I was hoping it would be a deeper red and with more transparency, but that is on me.The outside is quite rough to the touch, while the inner surface (where the boule was split) is smooth but uneven and pretty sharp on the edges. You can see a lot more of the color on the split side.A note of warning: if you intend to cut this it has a tendency to shatter. These synthetic rubies have a lot of internal stress.

The thickest portion is not enough to make anything substantial. This slab will only produce very small pieces. The length and width are fine it’s the depth.

Watching utube on faceting gemstones and the copper laps they were using carborundum (ruby) to charge the diamond grit in copper lap seem like a good use for it instead of a norbide stickI don't know because I haven't tried it yet price seemed ok to try it

I got this to start cutting and I was not disappointed! The weight was higher advertised. It's difficult to cut if you don't have the proper tools and does shatter at times due to high internal stress. I was able to make this arrow head and a few other pieces from it with plenty left over!

Great seller! Compared to others. This was the best material!!!
