The Tarot of Vampyres Cards – 1 Nov. 2017

These vampires are sensual and evocative, but there is something about them that calls out the instinctive and wild human being. The human being that can just 'be' rather than acting according to the rules of civilised society. It feels "naughty" (for want of a better word) because it's makes you feel free and natural. A feeling that might be mocked by other counterparts who are still being everything they "should". These cards are the very nature of fantasy, and there is something in Ian Daniels fantasy art cards that reminds us that underneath all the labels and roles there is a very evocative and instinctive human being and this perspective would indeed make for a very therapeutic Tarot reading. I can understand the previous reviewers experience with these cards.The cards are standard sized with a vague Rider-Waite chassis. They feel very slightly stiffer and glossier compared to other Llewellyn published decks - like the Shadowscapes and Legacy of the Divine. It comes with a paperback back which having skimmed through is well thought out with background on the Tarot' associations with the Kabalistic Tree of Life, alchemy and astrology. I don't agree with the Authors views on Tarot history and origin, or some of his associations with Esoteric doctrine which I feel was lost under colourful language, but for the most part it is very knowledgeable, lyrical and descriptive and I am impressed by it. I love that the Artist has included the astrological associative symbols discretely into scenery and characters of the cards.The cards come boxed (as usual for Llewellyn), an awful plain white tuck box which has a tear off flap and does not hold the cards tightly at all.

I recently had a reading done with these cards, and although I had never thought I would personally own a 'dark' deck, I unexpectedly found myself drawn to these cards. I decided to purchase them for myself, and after they arrived today, all I can say is WOW! Although the cards are a bit thinner than some of my other decks, the artwork is beautifully rendered, and I hope they will hold up well. They are slightly smaller than my other tarot decks - but due to this, they are easier to shuffle. The best part of this purchase, however, beyond the fact that these cards are surprisingly easy to connect with intuitively, is that the book that accompanies them is AMAZING! Ian Daniels has written one of the most informative and intellectual tarot books I have read to this point - I am certain that I will refer to this book for additional insights even when I am using other decks - his explanations on the links and connections between cards, as well as how to determine your personal cards is fantastic. I am very pleased and look forward to using this deck when I need to find deeper insights and meanings.

Love these cards but the guide book is also good to read on its own as it explains so much more than the art or meaning on the cards.

These are beautiful and good quality cards with a detailed guide book. I don’t like how they’ve renamed cards and suits though and I find that confusing & unnecessary.

As I collector and professional reader, I tend to go for Pagan, Witchy, Fairy, earthy Tarot cards.. I can find even the Rider Waite a bit too cut n dry .. not much therapeutic healing going on there… so I surprised myself by clicking 'buy' button on this unfailingly marvellous Tarot deck. I have never been into goth or blood, yet these cards are beautifully mastered, with sensual feeling and evocative direction. They are notgruesome.. and the accompanying book is probably the best book I have ever read on Tarot (and I have shelves). The depth that the author has gone into, yet with such ease of writing, is nothing short of superb. Truly, I may not use these professionally, (as the delicately despairing, dripping blood maidens may alarm a few people) but they are the most fantastic deck for personal growth, Jungian Shadow work and clarity. Already had these. Love them so wanted a second deck to treasure. The book is really good too. I don’t need a book but it really does add depth and meaning. I have over a hundred decks And oracles and this is one of only three decks (two others are non vampire) that I have actually bought a second copy of. I have three Other vampire decks in total including the Scarabeo one, Martin M Peace and Joseph Vargo’s deck. There were two other vampire decks I bought and sold that I did not use so often.

I already had quite a few books illustrated by Ian Daniels i love his artwork and this didn't disappoint .The illustrations are beautiful and well presented. Slightly different naming to minor arcana cards but nothing you couldn't get use to at all when in use . only fault i can find is the box for the book and cards is a bit flimsy and came unglued at side but most people may discard or store this flat anyway . The book looks interesting i have only had a flick through it briefly but it appears to contain a good amount of information and that which i have read seems well thought out and researched .

WOW!! I can honestly say...these are the most beautiful and sensual Tarot cards I have ever seen! These Vampires are absolutely stunning. They are such a pleasure to use and are very accurate. I just can't stop using them, and have been doing readings for all my family and friends, many of whom have asked where I bought them as they now want decks of their own!I would have given these ten stars if it were possible. I am so impressed!Apart from the cards themselves, the box they arrived in is really beautiful and has a magnetic closure.This is truly a collector's item. 😊

The publisher decided to let this go out of print recently (July 2024), which is utter madness. This is one of the very best decks Llewellyn had in their line-up, probably one of the very best of all the mass market decks across all publishers.Yes, the artwork is cheesy, but trust me: get it. I resisted this deck for years, thinking the artwork was just not my cup of tea. Finally, after having it strongly recommended by a number of people, I got it and am so very glad I did.Excellent deck, but even moreso: a fantastic guidebook. Light years beyond what you get in most decks. Most newer boxed-set decks coming out these days have giant books full of oversized colour photos and only as much (or less) text as could easily fit in a standard little white book in a little tuckbox deck. (Which is to say: lots and lots of filler, wasting so much paper and space.) THIS guidebook is not that, not at all. It is a whole educational course in tarot in one book. Cram-packed with information, not just about this deck in particular, but that also applies to tarot as a whole.Best deck out there for anyone who has learned the basics of the RWS and wants to branch out into deeper, more esoteric tarot studies -- or who is looking to add a 'shadow work' dimension to their tarot practice. You'll get a taste of the Thoth deck from this, and you'll learn so much about astrological and Kabbalistic tarot as well.Llewellyn has made a grave error dropping this deck in favour of their much fluffier, less deep, less informative "Tarot of the Vampires" by Chas Harrington (with Vampires spelled with an 'i' not a 'y'). Nothing against Harrington, but that new deck is Diet Tarot. The folks at Llewellyn seem to think that one vampire theme deck is just as good as another, which shows they have absolutely no idea the depth and vastly superior quality that this deck holds. So they have let this one go into 'out of print' status.Right now, as of August 2024, there are still copies available at normal retail price. Once those copies sell out and this becomes only available on the secondary market, prices will go up and it may become much harder to obtain. Buy it now while you still can. (Just make sure to get this one not the newer inferior one. 'Vampyres' not 'Vampires'.)Heck, do what I did & buy a second copy as a backup for when you eventually wear the first one out!

A beautifully illustrated deck completely dragged down & ruined by the rubbish cardstock as thin as loo-paper, from Llewellyn ... Have since found out, this the norm from this tarot publisher....These cards will never endure any type of shuffling at all . The cards in this deck came with chips, dings & white patches throughout, as in above photo...While the external packaging is quite sound & intack. In aust these are not cheap decks to purchase.. So if intending to buy Llewellyn tarot /oracles be aware of the very cheap & poor quality of the actual cards.

Anything that you've heard from all the walkthroughs / reviews / flipthroughs.. IT IS ALL TRUE!This is one of the most intense, deep, mesmerizing, magnetic, true to the core, deck that you'll ever gonna find.I always love vampire: movies, books, ... you named it. I LOVE IT ALL!But, when it come to Tarot, I asked myself: do i need vampires in my tarot?! Is it gonna work?!Oh boy.. yes it worked! I'm amazed on the reading I've got from this deck. Feels like it knows you better than you ever know yourself. 😌I've been reading Tarot for 15+ years now, and honestly, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MY FIRST DECK.You must be thinking that I'm full of BS, right?Firstly, this deck is rich in symbology, hidden esoteric knowledge, perfect marriage of RWS & Thoth. Plus, this deck still holds that number 1 spot up till now, and never leave my side.I really need to get an extra copy, coz I've wrote too many notes on this guidebook.. haha.I really enjoy reading the guidebook, & working with this deck. Because of it, I've started to journal.... again & keep working with it.. hours upon hours for the past 3 months & up until now.Anyway, enough writing.. you probably won't get my point until you check the deck & the guidebook. I would pay the price of an Indie deck just to get this guidebook.. it's a gem!You won't regret this purchase!I never actually drawn to darker deck, but this deck speaks from my soul. It made me feel naked & expose, and feel even more connected to my spiritual path. ❤️I'm glad I have a copy of my own. This is my ultimate deck!
