I used this as a good starting part for my dissertation, the casual style and little jokes throughout makes research much more manageable, and gives you a lot of opportunities to delve into further depth with your own studies if needs be. Plus, I just love the dude, I'm a huge fan of Dr Peterson and his work

The best book on language constuction and understanding, full of useful and interesting facts

Cool!! (And a great sideways intro to a lot of linguistic!)

This book gives a great introduction not only to the theory of creating a conlang but also to some vital linguistics principles and as a result is handy as a basic overview of fields like Phonetics. Was finally able to explain to family members, "there...that's what I do all day!" Really lovely presentation and practical explanations. Not going to be the book for you if you're looking for a phrasebook of any of the Languages constructed by Peterson himself. Ideal if you are interested, even vaguely, in Artistic Languages or even in an approachable intro to some practical Linguistic theory!

Quite a nice read, though with a steep learning curve for those without any linguistic knowledge. A good companion to Mark Rosenfelder's Language Construction Kit and Advance Language Construction, with a focus on developing naturalistic conlangs. Don't mention the onions!
