Oman - Culture Smart!: The Essential Guide to Customs & Culture Paperback – March 1, 2009

This book is an invaluable read prior to visiting Oman. The culture is so different from the USA. Purchased this book to make sure I knew the customs and culture and it was dead-on correct. Had a great visit there for 2 weeks.

This book made the country sound so interesting it made me want to pack my bags and head out to visit. My friend used it in a presentation for school and other people also stated they would like to go there to see it and the people there.

Great little source to have in your bag of tricks to keep you from being the loud, obnoxious American abroad. At best, it may just keep you out of trouble in a place where trouble can mean a long, possibly painful, probably scary, and definitely expensive error in judgment.

It's got some good historical background, and the cultural representation is also okay, but it's too out of date. It was published six years ago, and there have been chances since.

If you want to learn the culture and history of Oman, it is a good book

Well written and informative. A good mix of history, culture and geography. Well worth a read if you plan to travel to Oman.

Very helpful in knowing what to expect on my visit to Oman.

As I believe others said, this is not a typical tourist guide book. It is, however, a seemingly good reference piece on Omani culture, traditions and practices. Anyone visiting Oman and wanting not to breach etiquette or insult Omanis can benefit from reading it. It's a quick read, as well.
