Fantastic! But Required Modification.
The media could not be loaded. Yes, I am giving this 5 stars, even though the base fell off within a few hours of hanging it on the feeder for the first time.I refilled and added a modified sling of tape to hold the base in place and have been so very happy with how it has performed since, the goldfinches love it, there as so many in my garden now that I might order another.I have been feeding goldfinches for sometime but my previous feeders have had a few problems. The most annoying being the sheer amount of waste, if the holes are too big then the seeds shoogle out and all end up on the ground. Larger holes allow sparrows to raid the feeder too, I have nothing against sparrows, but they have plenty peanuts supplied, I would prefer to leave the niger seed for finches. There is still some loss of seeds as the birds eat, but the smaller hole size does reduce this to a financially sustainable level. The other problem with my previous feeders are that they are difficult to clean thoroughly without damaging the feeder. This feeder is just two plastic pieces that com apart easily for cleaning (rather too easily in my case perhaps), so no worries there. The circular perches are perfect for the finches, they have no trouble using this.It is a great price considering that it came filled with niger seed (even though mine ended up on the floor)The plastic base just pushes on, it seemed tight but clearly was not tight enough, A design change to some kind of screw or twist clip might make it secure. For now I will tape it shut after filling and enjoy the birds.

Great tirst or budget feeder for goldfinches and siskins
The media could not be loaded. The goldfinch feeder arrived filled, ready to put out. Once the goldfinches started using the feeder, it quickly came to the point where they have it cleared out in a few hours. The feeder only holds about a cup of Niger, so it's a great way of rationing this expensive food. We usually fill it in the morning and again in the evening when we're about to watch the birds.Unlike other goldfinch feeders we bought over the years, this is easy to refill and clean. Just twist off the base. There are no screws or awkward snaps to pry apart. Drying the inside is a little tricky however as there is only the bottom opening. For filling, I suggest storing the Niger in a bottle to pour the seed in. This makes short work of refilling, particularly when it's raining outside.Despite the small size, this feeder does have a few issues worth mentioning. When I tried hanging it from a window feeder to lure goldfinches to the window, it is surprising the amount of Niger that falls to the ground. This led to seed clogging up a drain channel, so we've since hung it from a nearby bush.Chaffinches don't like it, which can be a good or bad thing. We first discovered this when it was hung from the window feeder. During this time, most chaffinches would fly to and immediately fly away from the window. Once we moved it to the bush, the chaffinches started coming back to the window feeder again. On the positive side, it meant no chaffinches would eat the Niger, unlike other goldfinch feeders we used over the years. For the price, this is well worth getting as a first feeder, particularly if you've never seen goldfinches in you area. As it comes prefilled, this avoids buying a bag of Niger either until goldfinches or siskins turn up. However, once goldfinches or siskins find it, be prepared to fill it regularly or to get a larger feeder.

Filled feeder that is slimmer than expected/EDITED to include the pack of 2, also purchased
We have a variety of birds around the various feeders, but I am unsure about goldfinches.Filled with nyjer seeds on arrival and ready to hang, this appears to be good value, at the time of writing, for a 'try it & see' exercise.📝 'The Goldfinch Finder comes ready filled and with two feeding ports and two ring perches. It is designed specifically for the Goldfinch and so gives you the best opportunity to get started with them. The base removes for refills and there is a fitted wire hook to allow it to be easily fitted to a branch or feeding station.'n.b. Contrary to the current ‘Technical Detail’ table above, there is NO ‘Power Source Type’ associated with this product!ooOooHolding around 75g, the tube is slimmer in diameter than some out there. In a rigid plastic-type, it looks like it will be easy to refill by simply twisting & pulling off the bright yellow coloured base.Early days yet, but I am hopeful.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------EDIT:Success! However, the goldfinches are camera shy, so far!EDIT 2/March 11th 2024:Word has got out...today 6 goldfinches passed through the back garden, so they are on the increase around here! As the original feeder is now looking a touch scruffy (squirrel teeth marks), I have now orderedthe pack of 2that currently represents better value.EDIT 3/MARCH 17th 2024:REF: PACK of 2 filled feeders (image below refers)❗‘Remove port cover clips before use’!These are transparent clips that are over the feeding holes; one each side. The 2 filled plastic-type feeders came in a plastic-type bag. A few of the tiny nyjer seeds had managed to escape despite said protection clips, so it is worth keeping an eye out when opening the bag!Standing around 19 cm tall, each feeder has a hanging hook in situ. Measuring roughly 14 cm wide, the bright yellow base pulls off for filling & cleaning. When filling, it is necessary to allow some space for returning the base!Replacing our old single version, I was worried that this brand new one might deter the goldfinches but within minutes they were down for their lunch.Seemingly messy eaters, there is a surprising amount of seed 'spill', so we keep a wheelbarrow underneath the arbour to collect it.ooOooSo, does the GOLDFINCH FINDER work?We knew that there were goldfinches a distance away when we first tried to attract them to our back garden...now we have a fair few passing through, patiently waiting their turn at the feeder.I think that the bright yellow has caught the eye, and Spring is in the air, at the time of this last edit! ☺️
